PLASA Focus Leeds is free to attend and will return to The Royal Armouries Museum from 9 - 10 May, 2017
UK - A succession of new seminars has been added to the PLASA Focus Leeds 2017 programme, providing the industry with even more of a reason to make the journey up to the Royal Armouries in Leeds on the 9 – 10 May. The newest sessions, which are as always free to attend, include a tour of the BBC Studios, plus seminars which draw in expertise from well-established organisations such as Soulsound, BECTU and the Association of Lighting Designers.
Visitors to Leeds will have the opportunity to join a tour of the BBC Yorkshire production facility, hosted by Mike Buttery, operations manager of BBC Look North. The tour will cover the TV and radio studios, TV editing facilities and 'CAR' engineering department. Spaces are limited, anyone interested in joining should check the show’s website for information on how to sign-up.
Audio experts and long-time contributors to the PLASA seminar programme, Soulsound, will host two seminars during the show. The first session will discuss In Ear Monitoring including tips and techniques to get the best out of the technology. In a second session, titled Working in the music industry if you’re not technical, the Soulsound team will talk about alternative pathways in the industry which allow for a rock and roll lifestyle without getting your hands dirty.
Another new feature to the audio side of the programme will be presented by Daniele Massaccesi, international sales engineer for Axiom Professional Audio. In the session Transmission line back-loading in line array systems and the art of flying sub-woofers, Daniele will talk about how the technology can improve sonic clarity and definition for engineers, performers and audiences.
Building on the lighting side of the programme, the Association of Lighting Designers will host a panel session titled The challenges of lighting performances in non-traditional spaces, the panel will explore this subject, drawing in from case studies from in and around Leeds, including the recent Transform Festival which presents theatre work in arts venues across Leeds.
The final session on the programme is in collaboration with the media and entertainment union, BECTU. The session Self-Marketing for Success will be led by digital technology expert, Liz Hardwick, and will give advice to attendees on how to use the latest tools to develop a professional online presence which will ultimately boost job opportunities.
“When developing the programme for each PLASA event, our aim is it to provide visitors with sessions they wouldn’t easily have access to elsewhere, whether that’s sessions with expert speakers, a platform to discuss practical problems with their peers, or simply to learn about new technology in the market,” says director of events division, Christopher Toulmin. “These sessions deliver just that; we have collaborated with some leading organisations for this programme and we look forward to welcoming our speakers and visitors to Leeds in May.”
