Simon Barrett and Sintija Ruza join GLP in the UK
UK - GLP has announced two new members of its rapidly expanding UK operation, set up 12 months ago from a base in Exeter, Devon. The recruitment of seasoned lighting professional Simon Barrett is designed to give the company more direct contact with premier lighting designers and specifiers.
In recent years Simon has coordinated technical sales in Melbourne for Show Technology, before returning to the UK via a six month stint in New Zealand, to help set up a new office for the company there. Prior to that, he had occupied Technical Sales and Training roles with both White Light and MA.
Simon, who has a BA (Hons) degree in Lighting Design, says: “My priority will be to get the product in front of the key people who will be using it.”
Since Show Technology had been a distribution agent for GLP in Australia and New Zealand, he already has a wealth of GLP brand knowledge. While in Australia, he was also closely involved in the installation of GLP Spot One and Wash One fixtures into the Adelaide Convention Centre.
Meanwhile, in order to harness the growth, and keep the office running efficiently, GLP has also recruited Sintija Ruza in an administrative capacity. Sintija resumed her career after taking a break to study a degree in accountancy, and responding to a recruitment ad, was soon being interviewed by GLP UK Director, Mark Ravenhill.
“What attracted me was the prospect of becoming part of a new set-up in the UK, virtually from the beginning,” she said.
She joins Noel ‘Roly’ Smith who heads GLP’s UK operations and Andy Riley (technical support) at the Exeter HQ. “I couldn't have received a warmer welcome,” says Sintija, who came to the UK from her native Latvia seven years ago. “I have learnt quickly about GLP’s product portfolio and client base, and hope to meet some of the customers at the PLASA Show later in the year.”
Summarising the appointments, Mark Ravenhill states, “Having Simon and Sintija join the team at GLP is a fantastic step forward for us. Simon brings a wealth of knowledge and experience, with an exceptional level of customer service that fits perfectly in with our way of doing things. Sintija becomes one of the new faces of GLP UK and has already settled rapidly into the new role. We are very happy to have them both on board.”
