Romania - The Cocor Shopping Centre in Bucharest has unveiled a major upgrade to its massive digital signage display. The installation, a well-known feature of the city's urban landscape, has been revitalised with LED technology from Absen.
This landmark project was executed by local AV integration firm, Eltek. The project has transformed the facade, upgrading its visual performance, energy efficiency, and operational reliability to meet modern standards of performance.
For years, the Cocor’s LED system, based on older technology, had become difficult and expensive to maintain. The system's high energy consumption and frequent technical issues made it inefficient and unable to support modern visual digital campaigns. Additionally, the outdated content management system lacked modern automation features, further limiting its capabilities.
The client initially wanted to replace the old equipment, but a technical analysis revealed that the existing mounting structure was incompatible with new-generation displays. This led to a larger project to completely rebuild the facade's physical and digital infrastructure. The project included dismantling the old system, redesigning the supporting structure, and installing a new cutting-edge, technical solution. This new system is designed to operate 24/7, providing centralized control, synchronised playback, and real-time adaptability.
Absen’s LED technology was chosen for its balance of performance, durability, and energy-efficiency. Absen’s A0621 solution features IP65 protection, brightness of 7500 nits, a refresh rate of 15,000 Hz, and aluminium housing with both front and rear access, ‘ensuring seamless 24/7 operation in demanding urban conditions’.
“Absen’s LED technology impressed us not only with its exceptional brightness, durability, and outdoor readiness, but also with the team’s responsiveness and professionalism throughout the process,” said Marian Iancu, A/V design engineer at Eltek. “The company’s displays offer the combination of visual impact and engineering precision, and working with Absen made it possible to realise our vision for Cocor store’s media façade with confidence and efficiency.”
To support high-performance content distribution, a hybrid network of fibre optics and Cat 6a cabling was implemented, featuring active video converters, industrial-grade racks, and professional controllers. This infrastructure enables synchronised playback across all LED surfaces, delivering a cohesive and impactful visual experience.
“Supporting the Cocor Shopping Centre’s transformation was a fantastic opportunity to showcase the strength of our outdoor LED technology,” said Benjamin Phelps, retail industry director at Absen. “Working with Eltek was seamless; they understood the vision, and together we delivered a solution that’s both visually striking and built for long-term performance. We’re proud to have played a role in transforming one of Bucharest’s most iconic commercial spaces into a modern digital landmark.”
