Somers Court - before and after
UK - Over three days in early August, 22 volunteers from event production specialists Light Fantastic Production Services transformed the outdoor space at Somers Court, a supported home in Edgware, North London.
Managed by Norwood, Somers Court provides assisted living to help children and adults maximise their potential at home, at school and throughout their lives.
Taking a break from their ‘day job’ supplying production services and equipment to the event industry, the LFPS team endured the August heatwave plus severe torrential downpours to create a bright and inspiring garden for residents to enjoy. Handling every aspect of design, build and installation, LFPS also covered the full cost of both time and materials to ensure delivery of the completed project.
Inspired and functional, the revamped gardens now include accessible high-level planters, a shaded gazebo area, barbeque, sun loungers, wheelchair friendly gravel paths, sensory rock features plus an attractive entrance archway. The newly created, colourful and tranquil environment is intended to encourage residents to venture outdoors more and enjoy the new space along with friends and family.
Vicky Weir, operational manager-London at Somers Court, Norwood, says: “We can’t thank the Light Fantastic team enough for the garden transformation that they worked tirelessly on for the past three days. They took on a huge challenge as well as battling the Great British weather while maintaining great team spirit! They have created a garden space designed to stimulate and engage all the senses! A much needed space for the people we support to socialise, relax, and enjoy. Thank you Light Fantastic!”
Rob Myer, director of Light Fantastic, comments: “We embarked on this project for Norwood as we were looking for a way to bring our whole team together in giving something back to our local community. Not only have we been able to support a great cause but it’s been a brilliant opportunity for everyone to work together in creating something very substantial which will hopefully be enjoyed by Somers Court residents for many years to come.”
