A visual of Leeds Beckett’s new Creative Arts building, due to complete in 2020
UK - Stage Electrics has been appointed to supply film and TV studio lighting hoists, production lighting, sound, video and comms infrastructure and motorised grid systems to Leeds Beckett’s new Creative Arts building.
The scope of the contract covers five film & TV studios, three performing arts studios, music studios and mixing & screening rooms, a 180-seat theatre, an 80-seat studio theatre and a 230-seat cinema for film screenings. The building, currently under construction and due to complete in 2020, will house the university’s School of Film and Music & Performing Arts department.
Engaged by SES Engineering Services, on behalf of the main contractor, Downing Construction, Stage Electrics is set to begin on site in June of 2019, with the company’s Matthew Addison assigned as project manager for the development.
He comments: “The term ‘state of the art’ gets thrown around a lot, but this project is a true reflection of a state-of-the-art development. The Leeds Beckett Creative Arts Building is a professional standard of specification that students will benefit from for years to come. We are excited to begin this project next year knowing that, along with drawing on Leeds Beckett’s strong heritage for diverse learning skills and opportunities, we’re playing our part in providing a new city landmark.”
Due to the scale and differing nature of spaces within the project, the client appointed two venue consultants: Arup Venues, responsible for the design of five film & TV studios, three performing arts studios, and the music studios, mixing & screening rooms, and Charcoalblue, responsible for a 180-seat theatre, the 80-seat studio theatre and the 230-seat cinema for film screenings.
Once complete, the new facility will provide a creative focus for the school’s undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral and research programmes whilst acting as a hub for the cultural partnerships across the city.
