World - With a Meyer Sound Leo and Lyon linear sound reinforcement system supporting just his vocal, acoustic guitar, and loop pedal, singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran has single-handedly captivated 10,000-plus crowds on his latest world tour. Among the many concert reviewers impressed by how well Sheeran's one-man show translated in a large arena, Katie Atkinson of Billboard writes, "He had the crowd wrapped around his finger, and the booming sound to pack an arena with just an acoustic guitar and his voice."

Chris Marsh, Sheeran's production manager and FOH engineer, says: "I've had a chance to hear Ed's music on a lot of different systems, for various festivals, one-off shows, and opening for acts like Taylor Swift. But whenever I came across Leo - and more recently, Lyon - I've noticed a marked difference in sound quality, and hence a marked difference in my

UK - US rapper Childish Gambino recently wowed audiences at a one-off 02 Academy Brixton gig, with lighting designer Sarah Landau delivering a stunning show design. In testament to their longevity and robust technology, the design was complemented by the classic yet versatile Philips Vari-Lite VL2000 Spot and VL3000 Wash luminaires.

Landau worked alongside touring lighting director/operator Christian Lincoln to specify 18 VL3000 Wash luminaires and 16 VL2000 Spots. Supplied by Siyan Ltd, the luminaires performed key roles within the design and crucially worked well alongside the extensive visual element.

"Childish Gambino's show is very theatrical, not a typical rap concert," explains Landau. "The visual design is focused on projections - four 20K projectors mapped onto an upstage screen, a downstage scrim, side columns, and stage set pieces. The Vari-Lite lumi

Burning Man is an annual event and a thriving year-round culture. The event takes place the week leading up to and including Labour Day, and is dedicated to the spirit of community, art and self-reliance, culminating in a burning of a series of effigies as a spontaneous act of "radical self-expression". UK - Proms in the Park 2014 is the popular spill out conclusion to the BBC Proms season at the Royal Albert Hall. The now world-famous Last Night celebrations bring thousands of people together at outdoor venues in London, Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland. Each event centres on a live concert with its own high-profile artists, BBC orchestras and presenters. Capital Sound, deploying a Martin Audio MLA loudspeaker system, was on hand in Hyde Park to ensure that the live sound for this year's eclectic line up sparkled.

Hosted by Sir Terry Wogan, the open-air concert featured a multitude of musical stars, including Proms in the Park favourites the BBC Concert Orchestra, under the baton of Richard Balcombe, and special guests Italian tenor Vittorio Grigolo, soprano Pumeza Matshikiza, Rufus Wainwright and Earth, Wind & Fire.

USA - Two of this season's most successful regional festivals took place this August in Oregon where the five-year-old BI-MART Willamette Country Music Festival in Brownsville (15-17 August) drew upwards of 25,000 fans who came to hear acts like Blake Shelton, Gary Allen and Eric Church. Regional discount retailer BI-MART also launched a new sister festival in Sixes this year, the Cape Blanco Country Music Festival (1-3 August), which attracted as many as 15,000 to hear Brad Paisley, Eric Church and Justin Moore, among others.

These two festivals represented country music at its best, but what really tied both together - aside from their mutual corporate sponsor - was the sound provided at each site by U.S. Audio & Lighting's L-Acoustics K2 system. "The music sounded excellent in both places," says Patrick Coughlin, general manager of U.S. Audio & Lighting North, the N

Inter-M, a leading manufacturer of audio, video, communications, and information technology products headquartered in Korea, was chosen as the official supplier of the PA system.

The live event was broadcasted to the massive crowd of people in Gwanghwamun Square and lining the streets. A backbone for the transmission of the PA system used 20 of Inter-M's new DAC-288 transmitter/receivers. The DAC-288 incorporates Audinate's market leading Dante digital audio over IP networking solution. The 12 square kilometer venue in Gwanghwamun facing Seoul's City Hall Square had

UK - For over 60 years the Edinburgh Military Tattoo has been a centrepiece of the various annual festivals that take place in the city throughout August. Renowned for the precision of its performances, 2014 saw a DiGiCo SD10 console marching to a military beat.

Delivering seamless sound around the high temporary stands erected at Edinburgh Castle is always a challenge, as the weather can change from calm to very windy, from dry to thick fog or torrential rain in minutes. The show itself is very dynamic, with the audience seated around three sides - and the further rows and mix position high above - of the large courtyard in which the action takes place. Adding to the challenge is the backdrop of the castle itself, which is visually stunning, but provides a large, hard surface for slapback.

For 2014, the audio team tasked with this challenging project comprised sound designer

UK - Lighting and rigging specialists dbn were asked by Glasgow-based arts organization Cryptic to collaborate on creating Sound To Sea, a very special night-time nautical extravaganza presented in partnership with Glasgow Science Centre, and in association with Walk The Plank, All Or Nothing and The Royal Navy, staged at the Canting Basin on the River Clyde in Glasgow.

This vibrant and ambitious site specific work, directed by Cathie Boyd, celebrated Cryptic's 20th anniversary and was part of the arts programme accompanying the 2014 XX Commonwealth Games in the city, which culminated the same weekend.

dbn's Stephen Page was commissioned to design and develop a lighting scheme for the show, due to the company's extensive experience working on dynamic outdoor multi-faceted performances like this.

This year, the Pleasance celebrated its 30th anniversary at the cutting edge of independent and innovative theatre, and was once again central to the Edinburgh vibes staging some of the best new works and showcasing breakthrough talent with an average of 10 shows a day running in each of its spaces!

All the technicals were overseen by Pleasance technical operations manager Matt Britten and lighting by Pleasance Edinburgh head of lighting Dom Knight, who also designed and specified 'house' lighting rigs for the venues.

UK - Sibling-fronted pop/rock band The Dunwells has spent most of 2014 on tour. Dates in the US and a range of UK festivals were followed by the band's Show Me Emotion UK tour throughout September. Using Yamaha QL5 digital console has made a huge difference to both the band and mix engineer Sean Murphy.

The four-piece - comprising brothers Joseph and David Dunwell on vocals and guitar, bassist Rob Clayton and drummer Adam Taylor - has played both club shows and support slots in bigger venues over the course of the tour.

Sean is operations manager at Subfrantic, a rental company with extensive use and knowledge of Yamaha digital consoles. He chose a Yamaha QL5 and Rio3224-D as the ideal solution for the size-versus-features requirements of a hard working band which is touring on a budget.

"Club tours are challenging at the best of times, especially when you're fac

"We have worked with James Blunt since 2005, this is our fourth world tour with him, and all James' shows have been dominated by Martin moving lights," Said Johnson. "This is the largest production we have taken out on the road thus far."

The theme of the tour is the romanticism and loneliness of the moon landings. For

Belgium - The City of Namur in Belgium is once again enjoying the sound of the traditional bells of a carillon thanks to a modern solution designed and installed by audio specialists Live 4 Life. The project was initiated by the Alderman and Officers of Namur to entertain visitors and reclaim the city's historical traditions.

Placed high on the roof of the City Hall, four Community RSH-462 loudspeakers broadcast short extracts from Li Bia Bouquet, the anthem of Namur. The schedule of play is phased throughout the week to play longer on such days as market day, and less on Sundays when it could disturb the residents.

An InOut RePlay R-01E is used for content and scheduling, while digital processing and loudspeaker management is provided by a Community dSPEC226. The high power Focussed Array RSH-462 loudspeakers are driven by two t&mSystems SP1600 700 Watt amplifiers.

The performance project did not only unite cultures, communities, schools and families, but above all encouraged self-pride, achievement, self-appreciation and the fulfilment of dreams.
