UK - The 2015 PLASA Rigging Conference was once again attended by approximately 120 delegates including rigging professionals, representatives from the UK Health and Safety Executive and from venues and rigging companies across Europe and even further afield.

Technical content included the engineering principles behind aluminium truss design and the legal responsibilities involved with integrating chain hoists and control systems. Delegates made the most of the opportunity to ask the HSE questions about compliance and enforcement of the CDM Regulations 2015 in the entertainment industry.

Those attending reported they learned a great deal from each session and the event was very well worth taking the time to attend.

UK - Martin Audio partner and sub-distributor Old Barn Audio (OBA) has been a regular visitor to the Lee Valley White Water Centre in Waltham Cross recently.

Originally constructed in 2010 at a cost of £31m as one of the 2012 London Olympics host venues, it has now undergone an upgrade to its installed sound system in preparation for hosting the recent ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships.

First, OBA fitted Martin Audio's new CDD installation series on the terrace, meeting rooms and meeting room balconies, before providing their own MLA Compact rental system for the six-day Championships televised around the world.

USA - The Jacksons and the Temptations both are Motown legends. Both are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Both are multiple Grammy winners - and both bring an infectious sense of sheer joy to every perfectly hit note in their musical performances. Yet for all that they share in common, the two iconic groups have very different musical styles.

Lighting designer Jason 'Blends' Ayala of ProSho (New York) supported each group with a lightshow that fit its individual sound like a visual glove at the recent Motown Legends Show in White Plains. He accomplished this feat using a single rig anchored by a collection of fixtures from Chauvet Professional.

Sweden - Way Out West festival in Gothenburg offered an immersive showcase for the recently expanded Leo family systems from Meyer Sound. With the newest Leopard linear sound reinforcement system leading a family of Leeo and Lyon systems, Meyer Sound covered all four festival stages, supporting headliners such as Beck, Patti Smith, Florence and the Machine, Belle & Sebastian, and Pet Shop Boys. Stockholm-based Starlight provided all sound, lighting, and staging systems.

UK - Robe took a completely different approach to the 2015 PLASA London expo this year, creating a fully immersive piazza environment in their 'Arena' space - the largest stand on the exhibition floor - which became a showcase for the latest products built for theatres from the Czech manufacturer, including the new DL7S Profile, the latest DL4 range and the BMFL Blade, amongst others.

The stand design was inspired by the magnificent decorated marble and painted stucco of the Palacio Nacional (National Palace) in Mexico City, the seat of the federal executive which is located on the city's main square, El Zócalo. Much of the current Palacio's building materials are from the original palace that belonged to Moctezuma II during the Aztec Empire.

Artichoke produce Lumiere Durham, which will once again transform the historic city with an ambitious programme of light installations from international artists from 12-15 November. More than 40 years since they started out in Los Angeles, the band continues a creative partnership that is one of the most influential and enduring in music.

David Crosby, Stephen Stills and Graham Nash have all been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice each and are also in the Songwriter's Hall of Fame, honored both for CSN as a group and as individual solo artists.

Set on the picturesque Blackheath Common, the two-day gathering features an eclectic mix of live music and pop-up food stalls, an alluring combination that earned it five nominations for Festival Awards in 2014, its very first year of existence.

This year the festival turned up the juice even more with a new Make Noise DJ stage that featured EDM stars like Erol Alkan and Grammy-winner Tom Findlay (Groove Armada), along with a dazzling array of 28 pixel-mapped Nexus 4x4 LED panels from Chauvet Professional.

USA - The 5,000-seat Overlake Christian Church in Redmond, WA, has installed a Nexo STM modular line array system, the first to go into a house of worship in the USA. The installation includes STM M46 and M28 cabinets, as well as Geo S12 modules.

Each week, Overlake Christian Church (OCC) is filled with a variety of events as well as Christian services. The 5,000-seat sanctuary has been in operation for close to 20 years with an average weekly attendance of 3,500.

The modular Nexo STM system replaces equipment that was installed in the church when it originally opened. The system design and installation was performed by Morgan Sound (Lynnwood, WA) following a comprehensive study of the acoustical space and available rigging points.

Singapore - Nanyang Polytechnic has invested in eight Avolites Quartz consoles for its Electronic Engineering course, which offers a specialist final year of AV System Design.

Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) is located in Yio Chu Kang next to Yio Chu Kang MRT Station, Singapore. More than 15,000 students attend, on a campus of 30 hectares.

Wigwam initially purchased two Qu-Pacs but soon purchased a further four. Installed in several new rack shout systems, the Qu-Pacs manage communications between FOH and monitor position on the main stages of many of the season's top festivals, including the Isle of Wight and the Big Church day.

Qu-Pac is a faderless mixer with built-in touchscreen, front panel soft keys, and iPad remote control. The fully customisable Qu-Control screen can be set up with 'widgets' for channel levels, mutes and assignment switches, and the 15 soft keys allow further customisation.

Performing Organum - a contemporary organ work composed by Wolfgang Mitterer especially for the occasion - the event was broadcast live via satellite to the Karlsruhe State Academy of Design (Hochschule für Gestaltung, HfG). At the academy, the live video feeds from the organists playing and the music itself were set to a technically and artistically challenging sound and image installation, with the help of two Lawo V pro8 video processor units and a Lawo mc 36 audio mixing console.
