Ultra Events invests in DiGiCo

According to Costa Champianis, director at Ultra Events, there were limited number of large-format DiGiCo consoles available for dry hire in the region, which was having a negative impact on technical services provider’s ability to meet the demands of international riders.
“Over the past few years, there has been a shift in rider requirements, showing a definite preference for DiGiCo’s larger consoles by the majority of touring artists,” explains Champianis. “In October last year, we were contracted to provide technical services for the Norwegian pop band a-ha, who had booked touring dates in both Cape Town and Johannesburg through Breakout Events and Rogue Entertainment in mid-February. We were able to meet the requirements of about 70% of the rider, but once again found ourselves lacking when it came to audio consoles.”
Costa and his team decided that the time was right to add DiGiCo’s SD12 to their inventory, not only to fulfil the technical requirements for the staging of a-ha’s current world tour in Cape Town but also to strengthen their position as a technical service provider for international touring artists in the future.
“Ultra Events is recognised as a leading technical service provider in the region, and we enjoy servicing the larger international artists as it not only provides the opportunity for South African audiences to enjoy their favourite acts live on stage but also exposes our crew to the international technical talent and standards,” says Champianis. “We are pleased to report that on the 21 February a-ha’s Hunting High and Low tour, held at the Green Point A Track, went off without a hitch, and the SD12 performed beautifully.”
