UK - A.C. Special Projects (ACSP) has supplied Brand Pilot Limited, a strategic marketing consultancy based in Oxford, UK, with a complete touring audio and lighting solution for the promotional stand used at race circuits across the UK supporting Tesco's sponsorship of the MG KX Momentum Race Team.

The 10 x 15m structure has been appearing throughout the 2012 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) racing season, including visits to the Brands Hatch, Donington Park and Silverstone circuits.

The all-new MG Motor UK team main sponsors are Tesco's Momentum fuel and KX Energy Drink. The team is piloted by double BTCC champion Jason Plato. USA - Scott Davies, vice president of marketing at the American DJ Group of Companies, has resigned his position and retired from the firm after more than 25 years of service. Davies, who joined the company, soon after it was founded by his brother Chuck Davies, served ADJ in a variety of positions through the years and was involved in many of its outstanding achievements as it grew into an industry leader. He received many awards for his contribution to the company and the DJ industry, including most recently a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2006 Mobile Beat Show.

UK - Following on from the successful launch of the Green Festival Alliance's practical guide to sustainable power at outdoor events, they will be hosting a seminar at the forthcoming Event Production Show entitled 'Innovations in Power: Reducing Costs and Carbon'.

Alongside presentations from four industry experts, the seminar will also include a comprehensive overview of the guide, which was published in December 2012 and was designed to bring together the Powerful Thinking Campaign research initiative, which monitored generators at eight festivals last summer, and extensive feedback from power suppliers and festivals about the way they manage their power.

The key findings of the research, carried out in partnership with De Montfort University and Julie's Bicycle, were:

USA - The Long Reach Long Riders have confirmed the route for their 10th annual charity motorcycle ride. The rolling landscapes, deep forests and huge water of the upper midwest will serve as the backdrop for the 2013 version of the LRLR ride, which has been dubbed '10 Great Years, 5 Great Lakes.'

The riders will gather in Cleveland on 28 June, and head out early the next morning for a counter-clockwise tour of Lakes Erie, Michigan, Superior, Huron and Ontario before returning to Cleveland eight days later.

During those eigth days, the riders will visit 4,000-year-old sand dunes, stunning shorelines, waterfalls, islands, and more. UK - The Racecourse Newbury hosted BBC Stargazing Live on 9 January, where 1,500 budding astronomers put into practice everything Professor Brian Cox had taught them throughout the series with experts on hand for demonstrations and to answer any questions.

The racecourse was one of 12 locations in the UK chosen as the beacon of the South for its accessibility and flexibility. The event took place in the Grandstand which offers over 1000sq.m of pillar free floor space, ideal for the array of practical activities taking place.

UK - Events crewing firm Gallowglass is bolstering its business development activity with the promotion of Antony Cook to the role of client liaison manager.

Cook joined Gallowglass in 2011 as a crew member and became duty manager earlier this year before being given an operational role as London crew manager during the 2012 London Olympics.

Lion's Share - The West End production of Disney's The Lion King grossed more than £38m in 2012 marking the eighth consecutive year that it has broken its box office record, according to its producers. It took £38.6m, which was £900,000 more than 2011, when the show grossed £37.7m. The show took around £34m in 2010 and more than £32m in 2009. Audience numbers reached almost 800,000 last year at London's Lyceum Theatre where the show is running. However, producers confirmed that attendance levels were down slightly in 2012 compared to other years, due to "a shrinkage in the groups market," which they said was part of a "wider West End trend".

UK - In the week the movie was nominated for five Oscars, the UK premiere of award-winning director Quentin Tarantino's latest hit Django Unchained took place in London's Leicester Square.

Premier, who produced the premiere, brought in XL Events to supply the visual elements for the 'red-carpet' arrivals including stars Jamie Foxx, Samuel L Jackson, and Tarantino himself.

The special Django Unchained white carpet spanned the top side of Leicester Square leading to the door of the cinema. Alongside the carpet, XL Events hung six vertical screens each made up of 12 tiles of Pixled's lightweight, high-brightness F-12 LED. The screens displayed images of characters from the movie, as well as spelling out DJANGO.

Theatre News - Adam Kenwright, managing director of West End marketing agency AKA, has predicted that 2013 will be a "massive year" for London theatre with record audiences and box office. His predictions follow the news that West End long-runner The Lion King reported record box office of more than £38m in 2012.

2012 results for the whole of the West End are expected to be confirmed later this month, but already Kenwright has forecast that the next 12 months will be even better. Results for 2011 saw the West End record all-time high box offices of £528m, although attendance fell by 1.7% to 13.9m.

Abu Dhabi - When Gearhouse Broadcast's Projects Solutions Division was awarded the contract to build a series of interconnecting Flyaway Pods, for satellite broadcaster British Sky Broadcasting's coverage of Formula 1 motor racing, they asked Showforce to provide crew for the project.

The Flyaway Pods featured a series of portable cabins linked together, containing the servers, audio facilities and all the technical equipment needed to support the production. Showforce was appointed to assist with the installation and breakdown at some of the more remote and challenging circuits. Initially Showforce utilised their strong presence in the Middle East to deliver quality crew members for the Bahrain Grand Prix.

USA - Bandit Lites has announced the hiring of Andy Reese as the newest technical assistant to its Technical Services Department. Reese will be coordinating with the both the technical services and the sales departments to ensure that all customers (internal and external) get the parts and supplies that they need.

Originally a Knoxville native, Reese received his bachelors of science from Middle Tennessee State University, where he majored in the recording industry with a concentration in music business. He has since relocated to Nashville after working in Tulsa, OK as both an event and operations coordinator for the BOK Center and as the changeover manager for the Ted Constant Convocation Centre.

The Netherlands - As ISE 2013 opened its doors, organiser Integrated Systems Events has announced a further extension of its contract with Amsterdam RAI.

ISE has been located in Amsterdam for eight of its 10 years. Its previous contract with the RAI - one of the world's most successful convention venues - ran until 2016. This has now been extended for a further three years.

"Extending our contract with the RAI provides certainty for all of our event's stakeholders: associations, exhibitors, visitors and press," explains Mike Blackman, managing director, Integrated Systems Events.

UK - A.C. Entertainment Technologies (AC-ET) has announced that Peter Butler has been appointed to their board of directors as audio visual director.

Joining the company in 2003 as audio sales manager, Butler has been instrumental in driving forward and helping to establish the dedicated Audio Division, forging many new associations and relationships with manufacturers and customers along the way, says the company.

In 2011 Butler was appointed as acting video sales manager for AC-ET's Video Division, taking on a range of additional challenges and responsibilities.

Since then, he has played a key role in the expansion of the Video Division, bringing on-board many new video technologies and opening new business opportunities in the fast moving world of show and entertainment 'visuals'.
