Mixing it at 5FM
South Africa - On 11 May, radio station 5FM celebrated the 20-year journey of DJ, Roger Goode. The 5FM studios were transformed into a vibrant, club-like environment by beamZ Lighting, demonstrating Goode's significant influence on the music industry.
Roger Goode is a celebrated South African DJ who gained national prominence with his hit single In the beginning. The dance music compilation also found success in the European market. Goode has been a fixture on 5FM since 2003, becoming one of the station's most popular DJs. His humour, high-energy presentation style, and passion for music have captivated a wide audience, particularly during his popular 6pm show.
To commemorate Goode's 20-year milestone, 5FM hosted an intimate celebration during his show, inviting a select group of listeners to share in the exclusive 'Roger Goode Experience'.
Given the size constraints of the studio, the lighting rig needed to be simple yet effective, with minimal cabling. Rishaad Hoosen of StageOne, the beamZ Lighting Distributor for South Africa, was tasked with the job. Hoosen opted for a range of beamZ lighting fixtures that offered compact sizes and wire-free operation where possible.
The studio was decked out with six beamZ Fuze75S spots, known for their lightweight and compact size, and four beamZ Fuze 610Z washlights, both featuring powerful LEDs. For added colour, a beamZ Pandora 1200 laser was used, capable of projecting seven colours with built-in, pre-programmed DMX shows. Backlighting and chase effects were achieved with four beamZ LCB-14 Hybrid LED pixel bars, while the unique LED fan effect was produced by four beamZ LED Twister fans.
The beamZ BBP60 Uplights, which boast built-in batteries and wireless DMX capabilities, were selected for the small reception area outside the studio, eliminating the need for extra cables.
"We are honoured to sponsor the lighting for this special occasion for Roger Goode and 5FM," said Peter Berry, owner of StageOne. "Our mission is to enhance experiences with our lighting, and watching the studio come alive to the rhythm of Roger's music perfectly showcased the harmony of light and sound."
