UK - ITV’s This Morning is one of the longest running daytime programmes on British television. The show is broadcast from Television Centre in White City, West London, and is hosted by some of the UK’s leading presenters. Airing live, This Morning features a wide spectrum of topical material, from current affairs to showbiz, health, style and beauty, food, gardening and more. The show attracts around one million viewers per day, and this year reached its highest ever audience share of just under 30% of viewing.
During the first few weeks of December, the show featured a number of segments broadcast from outside locations at Television Centre. Head of Lighting for ITV Daytime, Matt Carter and his team used ETC fos/4 Panel lights (launched early in 2020) for the first time and were very impressed. He comments:
“We had two 24 x 24 size with the Daylight HDR Array, and two of the 8 x 24 with the Lustr X8 Array. I was immediately impressed by their output level, how flattering the softness was on the faces of our presenting talent, and the quality and depth of the colour tones. In the eight-colour LED versions in particular, flesh tones were warm and even, and the even wrap of light was particularly good on camera.
“Our presenters said that the lights were not intrusively in their eyes, and were easy to work in front of. In the past they have found the traditional HMI Fresnel lights to be harsh in their eyes, preventing them from easily reading autocue. The fos/4 lights certainly gained their seal of approval.
“Overall we were so impressed with the fos/4 units, we have now placed an order for three of the 24" x 24" size and two of the 8" x 24" size, all with the Lustr X8 arrays. We look forward to using these outside the studio throughout next year, in all the varying light conditions we will experience.”
