Bob Long has left Macclesfield-based Federal Signal Ltd, where he held the position of managing director. Before joining Federal Signal, Long was managing director of Akusta, a specialist in the provision of high-specification sound and communication systems to offshore drilling platforms. Following Federal’s acquisition of Akusta, Long took on the role of managing director of Federal Signal’s UK operation, which also incorporated Federal’s other UK acquisitions - Millbank and Delta Sound PA. Federal Signal has declined to comment on Long’s departure.
Canford Audio has appointed Mike Reay as key account manager. In this role, Reay will have special responsibility for several Canford product lines, including the Totalsystems range of meters and amplifiers. He will also be taking over front-line responsibilities for Canford`s exclusive UK distributorships of the Intelix range of audio and video matrixing units and DK-Audio’s master stereo displays and matrixes. Formerly sales manager of EMO, Reay spent 10 years establishing the company as one of the UK’s leading pro audio manufacturers.
Following a successful first year of trading, Nexo USA Inc has announced significant expansion plans and a corporate restructuring. David Solari, a well-respected figure in pro audio circles on both sides of the Atlantic, has been brought in to expand the management team in the new role of chief operating officer. Known for his success in building up the Meyer Sound brand, and for the subsequent development of amplifier manufacturer Cyberlogic, Solari also joins the main board of Nexo in the capacity of international marketing director. Jim Sides, Nexo's first corporate officer in the USA, has taken the position of executive vice-president of sales and marketing. As part of the restructuring, the company’s North American sales operations will relocate to premises in San Rafael, California.
New York-based City Theatrical has announced the return of Patrick Eagleton to the company, as director of sales and marketing. Eagleton, who has 15 years’ experience in the professional lighting industry, previously worked for the company from 1994 to 1997.
Audio Design Services has told PLASA Publishing that it has appointed Warren Morrow as commercial director. Morrow has 30 years’ experience in the audio industry, and will be known by many from his time at Altai Group, where he was responsible for sales of the Eagle brand. At Audio Design Services, his responsibilities will include expanding the company’s distribution network to address new markets.
James Bowes has taken over from Alan Bond in the role of sales director at Tannoy Audix Systems Ltd. Bowes has carried out the role of director of engineering for the past two years and during his eight years with Tannoy Audix has operated across both the commercial and technical areas of the company.
Tannoy Ltd has appointed Henny Groenendijk as managing director, replacing Alex Munro, who has left the company to pursue other interests. Groenendijk, who was previously managing director of another TGI Group subsidiary, Tannoy Nederland, takes up his position at Tannoy’s headquarters in Scotland immediately. His long-term relationship with Tannoy dates back to 1985 when he started working for Tannoy’s Dutch distributor, having previously worked in retail since1976. A year after joining the Dutch distributor, he bought them out and formed a new company, Tannoy Nederland. Subsequently, in 1992, Tannoy Nederland joined the TGI group.Tannoy Nederland has been an outstandingly successful component part of the TGIgroup, and is currently Tannoy’s fourth largest distributor.
Sennheiser UK has appointed Paul Nunnington as DAS product manager. He joins the company from Sound Technology, where he was southern area sales manager and will be responsible for the continuing expansion of the sales of DAS products into both MI and professional audio markets. Nunnington has considerable experience in the PA and musical instrument markets, with companies like Project Music, Shuttlesound and Sound Technology. The company has also appointed Dave Hawker as special projects manager. Hawker has almost 25 years’ experience in the broadcast industry, including operational experience at Carlton Television. His new role will include the design, management and installation of large systems in the music, broadcast and leisure markets.
Christie Systems Inc has appointed Dr. Glenn Sherman as president and chief executive officer. Christie Systems is the newly-created parent company of Christie Digital Systems Inc and Christie Inc. Sherman will oversee the development of both companies in all market segments including control room displays, fixed installations, rental staging, immersive and the digital cinema environment. Based at the company’s Cypress, California office, Sherman will be responsible for creating and implementing business strategies that drive profitable growth and market dominance for both Christie Digital Systems Inc and Christie Inc. He will also be responsible for preparing the company for an initial public offering in the near future. Sherman holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois and brings more than 20 years of experience developing and leading high technology companies on the international stage. A veteran of the laser and optics industry, Dr. Sherman led the development of the world’s first small solid-state blue laser and first portable, high-resolution and full-colour video display based on solid-state red, green and blue lasers.
Bill Summers, the former managing director of Playlight Film & Television has left the Playlight Group to pursue other interests. Chris Wroe, the company’s operations director, will now take over the responsibilities previously held by Summers.
Zero 88 Lighting has appointed Graham Eales as sales and marketing manager. He joins from Selecon New Zealand, where he has been instrumental in raising its profile and performance throughout Europe. Eales has over ten years’ experience in the production and theatrical environments and having run a hire company in South Africa and been responsible for Selecon NZ’s sales in the Pacific Rim, Europe and North America. His takes on his new role in May.

Lighting Unlimited has appointed industry veteran Mick ‘Jaggie’ Scullion as sales director, following his six years as sales and operations director with Spot Co. Scullion will be responsible for the company’s new business development programme, as well as account handling and management. At the same time, Lighting Unlimited has appointed two new project managers - Tony Fagan and Theo Cox - both also ex-Spot Co employees.
AC Lighting has appointed Paul Biggerstaff to its growing UK sales force. Paul has been with the company for three years and was previously, managing the UK Goods Out department of the company's warehouse facility in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire. Paul will be reporting directly to AC’s recently-promoted sales manager, Kevin Coker.
Rosco has appointed Andreas dessloch as its new development manager for German-speaking and former Eastern-bloc countries. Previously sales manager with Lightpower in Germany, Dessloch brings extensive experience of Rosco and ETC products, and of the German marketplace. Before working with Lightpower, Dessloch was also one of the organisers of the Frankfurt MusikMesse exhibition.Other recent changes at Rosco include the appointments of Kirsty Third to the UK sales team and Zoe Castle, previously scenic product specialist, taking overall responsibility for Rosco’s sales in France and Benelux, while continuing her specialist role in scenic products.

Richard Belliveau, who for many years was the driving force behind High End Systems’ R&D efforts, has finalised an exclusive agreement as an external consultant to the Austin, Texas-based automated lighting manufacturer. Belliveau left High End in 1998 and has spent the last year and a half developing new ideas. This agreement formalises Belliveau’s new role and allows him to focus on innovative ideas. ProMix, a member of the Production Resource Group’s Audio Group, has promoted Stephanie DiDonato to manager, industrial operations. DiDonato began her career with ProMix in the installation division in October 1996. In May 1999 she joined ProMix’s Industrial Division. In her new capacity, DiDonato works for Bob Rendon, vice-president of the Audio Group at ProMix’s Mount Vernon, NY, office.
Following four years in the product manager’s chair, Bryan Waters has left Allen & Heath to pursue his own business interests. He has founded Audace Technologies, specialists in control solutions for installed systems and audio web authoring. The new company will be based is Redruth, Cornwall.
Neil Riley has joined Stage One as systems manager. He will develop and maintain all the electronics and data information systems across the company’s two sites as well as offering assistance to clients, suppliers and freelancers with their IT requirements.
Stagetec has recently appointed Gary Herwing to the post of hire manager. Herwing has been in the business for some years, most recently as production manager for Paul Daniels, but has experience of both working in theatres and hire companies. He will take complete control of all aspects of the hire business of the company with an emphasis on developing both existing and new markets.
Vari-Lite has appointed Geralyn Harvey as marketing communications manager. Harvey, a 13-year marketing veteran, most recently with Canadian firm Milltronics, will oversee all advertising, promotion, public relations and trade show activities for the company. She will work closely with Ken Matthews, who was brought in as vice president of sales and marketing last year to develop Vari-Lite’s direct sales organisation.
AC Lighting has announced a number of staff promotions, including two new additions to its board of directors. Murray Gellatly has taken on the role of Financial Director, whilst GlynO'Donoghue becomes Marketing Director. Gellatly has been involved with AC since the early 1970s and has been its full time financial controller since 1993. O'Donoghue has been with AC Lighting for over eight years and has been a key member of the marketing department for much of that time. In a further promotion, Kevin Coker takes on the position of UK sales manager.
Overt Light to Sound - a new distribution company, handling both lighting and sound equipment - has been launched by Malcolm Burlow. Burlow has been in the industry for more than 15 years, most recently working with Electrovbision, but prior to that with DJ2000 which had the sole UK distributor rights to Numark. The company will distribute a wide range of products from major manufacturers worldwide.
