Europe - Optocore's AutoRouter has enjoyed a growing popularity in the past 12 months, says the company.
Now Optocore has announced the new OptoSplitter, a device which, when paired with AutoRouter, will achieve redundancy.
Take two identical AutoRouters - a main and backup device. All connections from any external equipment will now connect, not directly to the AutoRouter as previously, but to this new OptoSplitter. This splits the fibre signal into two and distributes it to both the main and backup AutoRouter. Both routers communicate leaving only one active at a time and automatically switching to the backup router when the active one is absent.
“This allows the system to work flawlessly even when one AutoRouter fails or is powered off,” confirms Optocore’s technical sales manager, Maciek Janiszewski. “Despite a bullet-proof design, without a single hardware failure since its launch, some customers have requested hardware redundancy.” And OptoSplitter is the company’s dynamic response to market feedback.
Finally, he adds that since it is a passive device it is not a point of failure. “Each connection splits within the independent optical splitter - the redundancy switchover takes place automatically and independently.”
While OptoSplitter is available as a complete new solution, all customers who already own an AutoRouter or BroaMan Route66 can add redundancy to their existing system.

The Netherlands - The QB242 arrayable subwoofer is a modular bass element designed for use in both permanent and (limited) portable applications. It is designed as a fully-scalable low-frequency extension (LFE) system to the QR24 line-source column system, or as arrayable LFE system with any Alcons pro-ribbon system.
The QB242 can be stacked or flown in multiples, making it a building block to form bass arrays, for obtaining low frequency projection and throw control in acoustically challenging spaces or over longer distances.
The controlled (cylindrical) projection of the QR24 can thus be extended down to the lower frequencies by enlarging the LFE array length through adding extra QB242 modules. The lowest usable frequency of one single element is 35Hz.
The Q-systems are suitable for applications where a high directivity and/or a very long throw is required, combined with HiFi output and concert SPL’s, like theatres, churches, Houses of Worship, mobile outdoor sound system and “acoustically challenging rooms”.
The two direct-radiating 12” Neodymium woofers are mounted in a vented chamber, with large bass reflex ports for excellent breathing capacity, increasing overall output while minimising port-compression. The tight driver arrangement caters for optimal array coupling.
The integrated mounting hardware facilitates quick and easy coupling with other QB242 modules.
Philip de Haan, head of Alcons Audio R&D, notes, “Our Q-series is the purest form of a line-source array, where we are able to acoustically obtain a pure

USA/Europe - Musician, Derek Brown recently tested out an Austrian Audio OC818 microphone, using it to capture his style of saxophone playing – dubbed ‘BEATBoX SAX’.
Previously the director of jazz studies at Abilene Christian University for six years, Brown received his BM in Music Performance (Classical and Jazz) from Hope College in 2006, and his MM in Jazz Studies at the University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music in 2008.
Crossing genres from jazz, to classical, to funk (and without using any looping or electronic effects), Brown’s unique playing style was born out of a love of blending musical genres.
“I grew up with a very normal way of playing the saxophone,” he said. “I studied classical music and I started liking jazz. I went to university and I studied all the techniques and different ways of improvising. I was always feeling a bit lost, thinking ‘what’s my new thing to say on this?’ Am I a jazz musician? Am I a classical musician? Am I a pop musician?”
Brown decided that he didn’t need to choose - the result being a blend of jazz and pop-style saxophone playing, combined with instrument-slapping techniques.
Requiring a microphone that was up to the challenge, Brown tested an Austrian Audio OC818: “It was great; it is everything I look for in a mic,” he said. “I had a very quiet signal and it seemed to pick up all the different things I'm doing on the saxophone, which is very important because everything I do – even though it sounds like it’s being looped or has an electronic effec
Finland - Genelec is now offering customers the option of a special RAW aluminium colour finish, available on a selection of the most popular models in its Studio, AV and Home Audio ranges.
All the models feature the Minimum Diffraction Enclosure (MDE) design, developed by Genelec in close collaboration with industrial designer Harri Koskinen, and fashioned from recycled aluminium. The RAW versions require no painting and less finishing material than standard painted models - creating an even more environmentally friendly loudspeaker that allows the natural beauty of the enclosure’s raw aluminium to shine through, and gives each individual loudspeaker a unique look and feel.
The models available are all two-way designs, and include the 8020, 8030 and 8040 nearfield studio monitors, the 4020, 4030 and 4040 installation loudspeakers, the new 4420 and 4430 Smart IP loudspeakers and the G Two, G Three and G Four home audio models.
Genelec’s original use of aluminium enclosures dates back to 1996 with the launch of the 1029A nearfield model, with the distinctive curves of the revolutionary diecast MDE design finally achieving worldwide recognition when the 8000 series was unveiled in 2004.
Over the years the MDE design has made possible an extensive range of custom paint finishes, but with the announcement of the new RAW option, Genelec is confident that customers will be attracted to the idea of investing in an endlessly recyclable Genelec loudspeaker that is itself largely created from recycled beverage cans and automotive parts

UK - Prolyte's LSU modular LED screen support system is now available for hire from Impact Production Services (IPS).
The Prolyte LSU system can be used to create freestanding LED screen support systems in a range of sizes. Designed to be used indoors for almost any LED screen system that has modules in 500mm wide multiple, it can also built to almost any size required. The kits from IPS contain a selection of components, and by combining different numbers of kits all kinds of screen support sizes can be constructed. If the screen needs to start higher, then IPS can supply a LiteDeck platform to boost the structure to the height required.
The system has already been deployed on a range of events, including on a corporate event in Paris for Showstyle where an 18m wide by 3m high LED screen was the centrepiece of a large room design. The LSU system was chosen particularly as it provides a clean finish to the front of the screen, with nothing sticking forward into the stage area. IPS project manager Tom Warden said: "Getting 18m of 2.9mm LED screen to line up seamlessly was one of my big concerns going into this project, and the Prolyte LSU system was brilliant onsite," adding that "the LED techs onsite all were very complimentary of the system, and how easy it was to set up".
The LSU system has adjustable feet on each base to make sure that the bottom horizontal connecting bar is level, and then vertical ladder truss sections attach to support the height of the screen. Arms then clamp onto the ladder sections and attach to the rear of the scree
