Germany - St. Laurentius Church in Westerwiehe has unveiled a new lighting installation that enhances the spiritual experience with adaptable and dynamic illumination. This transformation, coined ‘Lichterkirche’, integrates advanced Prolights technologies to redefine how visitors engage with the sacred space.
After a year-long renovation, the church now features a state-of-the-art media system by MediaKi, enabling visitors to control personalised lighting and soundscapes via a touchscreen terminal. Spearheaded by Schröder & Partner engineering firm, the project harnesses Prolights' LED fixtures to create effects that range from serene to celebratory.
Key Prolights products deployed in this project include ArcPod 15Q LED floodlights for vibrant sidewall and ceiling washes and ArcPod 27Q LED floodlights illuminating the altar dome.
ArcShine M9FC LED bars, hidden behind altar wood panels, enrich the ambient lighting. EclDisplay DAT FC spotlights highlight sacred sculptures and tabernacle details. LumiPix 15IP RGBW bar covers the church organ on the gallery.
“Our tasks included transforming the church into a ‘Lichterkirche’,” explains project manager Jan Wöhning from Schröder & Partner. “For this, the new luminaires had to be DMX-controllable and deliver particularly powerful colours.
“The church's architecture presented particular challenges: it has very high ceilings and large windows that allow a lot of daylight to enter. Since the lighting installation should also be used during the day, we had to find the right floodlights and suitable positions. Here, together with Lightpower, we were able to carry out detailed on-site sampling with the customer to find the perfect solution.”
