le-mark-floorsBlue Butterfly chooses Le Mark Nocturne
Friday, 21 June 2019

UK - The Blue Butterfly Dance Company has selected Le Mark Nocturne dance floor for its new studios.
The Blue Butterfly Dance Company, based in Eastleigh, Hampshire, recently opened new studios in the town centre. Built in a previously derelict site, they required new, versatile flooring for all the performance spaces.
“Before we started work, the unit was run-down and empty,” said Amy Fern, principal, Blue Butterfly Dance Company. “It was in a terrible state, so we had lots of work to do and only 12 weeks to do it in, before we opened. Our floors are used for all types of dance - ballet, tap, modern, contemporary, as well as fitness and yoga, so we needed a hard-wearing, multi-purpose floor.
“We chose Le Mark flooring as we felt it was much better value for money compared to other dance flooring. Now we have three beautiful studios, all with Le Mark Nocturne flooring.
“Our ethos is fun, affordable classes, and our new site is a place for everyone. Our students absolutely love their new studios! They love to dance on the new floors and are very proud to come to the studios every day.”
“I’m delighted that Blue Butterfly Dance Company selected the Nocturne Reversible Dance Floor,” said David Senior, project & business development, Le Mark. “It really is outstanding quality and the most durable dance floor in Le Mark’s range. The continuous colour that runs right through the material helps to conceal any minor damage that may be caused by defective tap shoes, and because it is reversible, it can be turned over t

bw-widget-award-imageBroadweigh's Bluetooth wins widget award
Wednesday, 19 June 2019

UK - Broadweigh Bluetooth is now an award-winning product - despite launching just one week ago. The product which made its debut on the A.C. Entertainment stand at the ABTT Theatre Show in Alexandra Palace, was awarded the Widget of the Year accolade at the annual awards ceremony.
The judging panel, which comprised an experienced group of working practitioners and industry peers, comments: "As a quick way to provide monitoring of small rigs, the Broadweigh load cell shackle - in conjunction with a Bluetooth connected device running the Broadweigh app - is exceptionally useful for those touring shows that require up to 12 points of rigging. The App also sums selected load cells to enable a maximum load to be identified. Use of this product will greatly speed up prep days."
Kelly Voysey, sales and marketing manager at Mantracourt Electronics, Broadweigh's parent company added: "We are delighted to receive this year's widget award at the show. Our aim was to bring a useful and affordable tool to a theatre technician's tool box - which would provide a clear picture of what is happening on the rig.”
She continued: "As a design and manufacturing company, our ethos is to bring intelligent, usable products to market. We believe the Broadweigh Bluetooth system fills a gap in the load monitoring solutions currently available. We look forward to bringing more Broadweigh innovations to our customers."

kinesys-mumford--sons-tour-photo-copyright-stufish-0174Kinesys on Delta duty with Mumford & Sons
Monday, 17 June 2019

Europe - Alt-folk rockers Mumford & Sons are midway through a world tour promoting their fourth studio album, Delta, which dropped at the end of 2018. The live show features a lighting design by long term LD Ed Warren and Phil Kaikoura which includes an extensive Kinesys automation system.
The Kinesys Apex System being used on the tour was chosen and invested in by UK-based Brilliant Stages who designed and provided the mothergrid system. Also in use are a series of bespoke spine trusses designed to span under venue score boards. The Kinesys motors are mounted inside Brilliant’s own custom truss sections, with two motors per section of truss that are then attached to the mothergrid spines through connection plates.
The lighting design started with Ed and Phil receiving a brief from the band containing -amongst other things - some cryptic statements about what Delta meant to them, which was followed by several months of back-and-forth, with set / video designers Stufish, Ed and Phil all throwing different ideas and proposals into the mix to see what stuck.
Show designer Ric Lipson from Stufish always planned an in-the-round show which brought many physical challenges for lighting - restricted positions for overhead trussing, sightlines, the band being able to move freely around the space, etc. Setup and rigging time were another major consideration as the dates were booked before the production was finalised.
All of this led to the essence of the lighting design being based on a series of moving pods. These could be varied accordin

armor-cart-white-backgroundMilos unveils Armor Cart
Wednesday, 12 June 2019

Europe - Milos has introduced the Armor Cart, a new hoist utility vehicle that provides safe and convenient transport and storage for up to four hoists.
Made from aluminium, the Armor Cart comes in two versions: model MAC-01-4025-A1 holds four 250kg hoists, and model MAC-01-2100-A1 holds two one tonne hoists.
Due to its compact form factor, and the possibility to stack Armor Carts on top of each other, transport volume is reduced up to 50% compared to flight cases, says the manufacturer. In addition, its open-air design reduces humidity within the interior and allows your hoists to dry faster, thereby helping to prevent corrosion.

lfps-kong2LFPS delivers King Kong to Harrods
Friday, 7 June 2019

UK - When looking to orchestrate an installation at Harrods, L’Atelier Five called on technical event specialists Light Fantastic Production Services to devise a suitably creative rigging solution to manoeuvre the precious cargo into place.
Created as part of an art installation featuring the work of French artist Richard Orlinski, the project required the ultra-precise handling and positioning of a 200kg King Kong gorilla statue, valued at over £250,000.
The challenging brief involved lifting the 200kg statue from street level down into position at the entrance to the Harrods fine watch room, located on the lower ground floor. The lack of rigging points, minimal clearance and need to protect both the cargo and the interior required delivery of a precision solution to carry out the rather unique task.
The LFPS team devised a custom rigging system based around a wheeled truss structure with a bespoke trolley beam to support a pair of moveable hoists. Having lifted the simian statue from its transit case, the structure was moved into position over the stairwell with just millimetres to spare. Carefully negotiating the delicate environment of the store, the package was lowered gently into its final position as part of the striking installation.
LFPS managing director Rob Myer comments, “We love an unusual brief and were delighted to rise to this king sized challenge. It’s been great helping our friends at L’Atelier Five create such a stunning installation - a proper work of art!”

sixty82-tower-theatre-pic1-pressSixty82 is right fit for Tower Theatre Company
Thursday, 6 June 2019

UK - A.C. Entertainment Technologies (AC-ET) has supplied a Sixty82 custom truss solution for the Tower Theatre Company, one of the busiest amateur theatre groups in Inner London.
A major presence in the Capital’s non-professional theatre scene for 87 years, with acting alumni including Tom Courtenay and Michael Gambon among others, through 2019 the Tower Theatre will present up to 20 full-scale productions to a broad public audience at its permanent new home in Stoke Newington.
Featuring a domed roof and interesting hexagonal shape, the theatre company’s new building offers it a level of flexibility that previous performance spaces have lacked. As part of ongoing renovations to make the former leisure centre suitable for the performers, staff and audiences’ requirements, a new studio space has been created in addition to the main auditorium to be used for rehearsals, readings & smaller performances.
Having provided support with various elements of the main theatre fit-out, the Theatre team approached production specialists, Light Fantastic Production Services to provide a flexible rigging solution for the studio space. Limited ceiling height, unusual angles and a lack of any rigging capacity in the ceiling meant that a custom-designed truss structure was needed to meet the only available anchor points on structural piers around the perimeter of the space.
Light Fantastic contacted Matthew Millward, sales manager for AC-ET’s rigging sales division, to supply a solution to meet the brief. AC-ET then worked closely with Sixty82 to c

bw-bluetoothABTT 2019: Broadweigh launches Bluetooth system
Tuesday, 28 May 2019

UK - Broadweigh will launch its Bluetooth load monitoring system at the ABTT Theatre Show 2019.
The Broadweigh Bluetooth system makes wireless load monitoring accessible to smaller scale rigging applications. The system will be on display and demonstrated on A.C. Entertainment Technologies' stand D1 at this year’s show.
The Broadweigh 3.25 tonne load shackle with integrated Bluetooth LE 4.0 provides precise multi-channel wireless load monitoring and sends data to the Broadweigh Android and iOS app, which contains all the tools required to configure and display data from the shackles in range.
Kelly Voysey, sales and marketing manager at Mantracourt, who design and manufacture Broadweigh, comments: "We are so excited to be using ABTT as our platform for launching Broadweigh Bluetooth. We believe this new system will be a real game changer for riggers. It delivers a simple system with shorter range and fewer connections than our original kit. Crucial to all of this is that it there is no loss of accuracy, build quality or battery life - it is simply a lower cost option for load monitoring and is ideal for small systems for a rigger's toolkit."
Voysey adds: "For many of our existing and potential customers, the capability of Broadweigh Bluetooth is more than enough. However up until now, they had no option other than to purchase the original system which delivered way more than they may ever need. What we now bring to market is a more affordable system which provides riggers with a handy toolkit for fast monitoring of static loads on a phone

scaff-boom-arm-newABTT 2019: Doughty double Boom Arm debut
Tuesday, 28 May 2019

UK - Doughty Engineering is set to bring its two latest Boom Arms to this year's ABTT. The Heavy Duty Boom Arm and the Scaff Boom Arm will make their first ABTT outing, following a successful launch earlier this year.
Mark Chorley, design engineer at Doughty, says: "Both our Scaff Boom Arm and Heavy Duty Boom arm have got people talking since we launched them this spring. The Scaff Boom Arm has been designed in response to customer demand - we see it as a 'get out of jail item' which will allow a rigger to fashion their own boom arm out of materials they have to hand and simply cut it down to size. It will take 48mm aluminium barrel or scaff tube and from feedback we've received so far, we're told it's a perfect addition to any tool kit."
While Doughty is unable to quote a safe working load for the product, each piece of kit comes with a loading chart which is also available in Doughty's Little Blue Book catalogue and on the company's website.
"We have to make sure that all bases are covered. We cannot predict how the product will be used, we have tested several different tubes of different sizes and suggested a SWL. Of course if our customers have any questions they can get in touch at any time. The Doughty team will be on hand for the duration of ABTT to handle any queries and we would encourage our existing and potential new customers to come and see the new members of the Boom Arm family and give us their feedback," adds Mark.
The Heavy Duty Boom Arm is capable of taking the weight of a moving light, offering riggers an attractive solutio
