UK - West London-based rental and technical solutions provider Entec is supplying the current Skunk Anansie festival tour with a control and monitor system, working with the band's long term engineers Paul Ramsay (FOH) and Simon Higgs on monitors.

The highly critically acclaimed Skunk Anansie has also been one of Entec Sound's most regular clients since 1998. Once again they came to Entec for the great service, excellent equipment and team of people, including Entec's head of sound Dick Hayes, who is also the account handler, and James Kerridge, who is out on the tour as systems tech.

USA - In January 2012 L-Acoustics sent out a notification that a trailer had been stolen on 8 December 2011, in Mexico City, following a Britney Spears concert. The missing trailer contained 24 L-Acoustics K1 and 18 V-DOSC line source elements, 12 K1-SB low-frequency extension enclosures and 48 SB-218 subwoofers, among other items.

Some of this equipment has started to surface on the American continent and has been offered anonymously to a third party.

Says L-Acoustics: "Please be vigilant in keeping a look out for this equipment. Any knowledge as to the existence and/or whereabouts of this equipment should be shared with L-Acoustics, Procolor or local law enforcement authorities. Product returns or submissions of information may be made anonymously. Serial numbers are available upon request."

UK - When Inception Group's Charlie Gilkes and Duncan Stirling took over the former Bureau, an exclusive members club behind London's Carnaby Street, and set about creating a retro disco theme redolent of the early '80s, they brought in their long-term sound contractor, SSE Audio Group.

The company's installation division, led by Emma Bigg, ensured that the new venue - fittingly named 'Disco' - would achieve best value by repurposing (and augmenting) the existing JBL Contractor Control series loudspeakers that had also served the previous private members club so well.

Russia - While Dmitry Medvedev was still President of Russia he implemented the building of a new research and innovation hub Skolkovo. "The intention was to sow the seeds of a Silicon Valley right here in Moscow," explained Alexander Minkov of Armo-Group, the company charged with developing this project to resolution. "Part of that development is Hypercube, the first building of the 'Innograd'; that's Russian for 'city of innovations'."

Hypercube is an imposing concrete and glass edifice housing a main conference hall supported by several meeting rooms. "We were charged with implementing the most innovative state of the art technologies within the centre," continued Alexander Minkov, "and we spent considerable time researching a decision for the best quality and reliability in the aspects of modern conference audio systems."

The Netherlands - Audio-Technica has confirmed it is again to provide wireless systems for conference and auditorium venues at IBC2013 between 12-17 September. A long-standing supporter of the IBC conference, this year sees Audio-Technica expanding its involvement with the event, supplying more wireless product and expertise than ever.

In addition to taking the lead in frequency planning and co-ordination for the entire conference, Audio-Technica will equip the IBC auditorium with 12 channels of wireless and microphones from its Artist Elite range. Wired microphone models including BP892 and BP893 headsets and gooseneck models from the Engineered Sound series will complement the wireless system in the venue.

The event's conference room will be served by Audio-Technica's new System 10 wireless, with a total of eight of the 2.4GHz systems providing coverage.

Australia - Røde Microphones has announced the release of the MiCon-11 adaptor cable, which provides connection between the R°DE HS1 headset, PinMic and Lavalier microphones, and TRRS devices such as the Apple iPhone, iPad and iPod touch as well as a large number of Android phones and tablets.

This now means that users of these microphones are able to take advantage of the Røde Rec app on Apple iOS devices, recording high-quality audio direct to their iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. UK - Shure Europe has announced details of its 2013 unsigned bands contest, Call For Legends. The winning band will pick up Shure equipment worth 3000 Euros, play a gig on one of the free stages at next year's prestigious Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland, and be given three days of free recording time at top London studio Kore with respected record producer/engineer Chris Kimsey at the controls. Chris will also mix the results, creating a finished EP for the winners.

The competition is open to any band in Europe, provided they have no current recording or publishing deal. Between 7 October and 27 December, entrants have to post one of their tracks to the competition web site (details below), together with a short video blog. Siemens are using the BlackBox Industrial Recorder (BBR-IND) units as part of a test campaign to assist in the measurement of their gas turbines.

UK - Shure radio microphones and in-ear monitoring systems were used extensively at the recent 2013 Aldeburgh Festival in Suffolk. The festival celebrated local composer Benjamin Britten's Centenary this year with a spectacular production of the opera Peter Grimes set quite literally at the sea side - on a 50m wide set placed at the very edge of the Suffolk shingle, where the North Sea begins.

Australia - Simonds Stadium, home of the Geelong Cats, has become the biggest and most successful multi-purpose venue in regional Victoria. The third stage of the Simonds Stadium's redevelopment was recently completed with the addition of a new Southern Grandstand, increasing capacity to over 35,000.

USA - The Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, located in Charleston, South Carolina, recently upgraded their sound reinforcement system with Tannoy VLS passive column loudspeakers.

The church has experienced many upgrades and renovations since the first cornerstone was placed in 1850. Unfortunately, none of the sound reinforcement systems seemed to solve the intelligibility issues caused by the highly reverberant space.

A traditional Catholic cathedral, the sanctuary is a long rectangular room with wooden pews that seat up to 1,200 parishioners. The room features beautiful stained glass, plaster walls, columns separating the main and side seating areas, and a small rear balcony, while the services are of a more traditional format, with a full choir and organ.
