USA - El Carlos Elegante is a Mexican and South American inspired restaurant in the Design District of Dallas, Texas. A creation of the successful Dallas-based Duro Hospitality Group, the eclectic venue consists of multiple dining areas and building materials. The front and back courtyards include retractable roofs creating indoor/outdoor seating. The restaurant required a sound system that would work within the architecture and style of the space and also withstand the extreme Texas weather in the outdoor dining areas.
Integrator NX A/V chose Fulcrum Acoustic speakers because of their form factor, sound quality and reliability. The small-footprint of the coaxial CX loudspeakers created a space-efficient design. Since all Fulcrum Acoustic speakers are-built-to-order, the customer was able to order unfinished boxes and custom stain them to match the space. They also appreciated the and architecturally unobtrusive wedge shape of the CX enclosures.
The customer wanted the sound to enhance the dining experience without being too loud. Ron Stanley, proprietor of NX A/V, said that the speakers “envelop the space with a rich sound while staying intelligible at a low volume”. With two outdoor patios spaces making up a significant portion of the dining areas, Fulcrum weather resistant speakers were deployed to withstand the Texas sun and heat.
Installers were surprised that the Fulcrum Acoustic system required almost no EQ adjustment during setup and were impressed with the sound quality and coverage. The customer is very happy with the system saying th
USA - Clear-Com intercom solutions have long been a go-to for NYC’s Public Theater, a means to ensure the behind-the-scenes technology for the stories they tell on stage is up to the task, now and for the future. In doing so, The Public Theater has recently implemented a new Clear-Com system to serve the multiple performance spaces in their Lower Manhattan headquarters on Lafayette Street at Astor Place in Manhattan.
One of the nation’s first non-profit theatres, The Public Theater has supported emerging playwrights and performers for over 60 years, including the premier of Hamilton in 2015, and has won numerous awards, including six Pulitzer Prizes.
The project they’re currently working on is a system designed to provide reliable comms throughout their headquarters’ five theatres and their cabaret venue, Joe’s Pub. “The building wasn't meant to be a theatre,” explains audio supervisor, Malachy Kronberg. “It’s actually three buildings with the walls blown out in some areas – the centre (building) being the old Astor Library. The Luesther Theater’s dressing rooms are in the basement, and the theatre is on the third floor, which creates some interesting comms issues.
“The end goal is to have full connectivity between the theatres – from the dressing rooms in the basement on the south side of the building up to the theatre on the third floor on the north side – and never lose connectivity.”
To achieve that, Kronberg worked closely with Clear-Com’s James Schaller (regional sales manager, Northeastern USA), u
USA - The non-profit AT&T Performing Arts Center in Dallas will observe its 15th anniversary next year and the five performance venues on its campus - the 2,200-seat Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House, the 547-capacity Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre, the outdoor performance space, Annette Strauss Square, whose lawn can hold up to 2,200, and two highly-utilized black box theatre spaces -have geared up to celebrate with a new sound system and an array of DiGiCo products that will enhance the sonic capabilities in the $360m facility.
The new systems, including a new d&b audiotechnik PA, were designed mainly for use in the Margaret McDermott Hall, located within the Winspear Opera House, and home to The Dallas Opera and Texas Ballet Theater; however, all of the DiGiCo systems will be available for use in any of the venues as needed.
Those systems include two Quantum338 consoles, a compact SD11 desk, a 4REA4 processing engine, a Purple Box CAT5/MADI to optical converter, four SD-MiNi Racks, two SD-Nano Racks, and a pair of SD-Racks fully outfitted with 32-bit Stadius Mic/Line cards. DMI-Dante cards were also specified for the consoles, in addition to Optocore connectivity, as well as a dual-redundant Dante IT network that was implemented to connect the system drivelines to drive the new PA.
“The DiGiCo systems are mainly for the opera house but can be moved and used around the entire AT&T Performing Arts Center as needed,” says Jace Hershberger, head audio for the centre. “Flexibility was the main feature we looked for.” In addition

UK - Tucked away in the bustling heart of Mayfair, Bacchanalia offers a distinctive dining experience that caters to all the senses. The gourmet restaurant, the vision of Richard Caring and his Caprice Holdings group, is inspired by the festive spirit of ancient Rome and serves a menu of Greek and Mediterranean cuisine. Its richly decorated interior hosts artwork from artists such as Damien Hirst.
The restaurant has also built a reputation for entertainment, offering a mix of background music, live performances, and international DJ sets. To deliver this experience, Bacchanalia required a sound system that would seamlessly integrate dynamic sound with the space’s Greco-Roman-inspired environment.
The priority was preserving the venue's aesthetic in the primary dining space and the adjoining Apollo's Muse members' club. To achieve this, Bacchanalia’s management team installed an L-Acoustics sound system based around the powerful, discreet S Series to ensure a high-quality sonic experience that blends discreetly into the décor.
Shepperton-based Marquee AV was entrusted with designing and installing the audio solution for Bacchanalia. The company already had a solid foundation of successful collaborations with Caprice Holdings, including an extensive L-Acoustics installation at Annabel’s club in Mayfair.
Marquee AV designed a Syva-based system to provide a versatile soundscape, complement the venue's unique architecture, and minimise noise spill. “The main factor in our choice was the projection of the Syva highs, which perform flawles

UK - As part of its quest to simplify the world of commercial audio for integrators and end-users alike, Optimal Audio continues to evolve its ecosystem, and the latest developments see updates to its WebApp and SmartAmp firmware.
WebApp unlocks the technology and capability behind Optimal Audio’s Zone series, providing the foundation to deliver efficient, high-quality multi-zoned commercial sound systems. Compatible with any device, WebApp makes system set-up straightforward and once completed, the venue staff can then be presented with a simple user interface which allows them to easily operate the system.
WebApp 1.2 sees a number of additions designed to make system configuration more powerful, including the ability to add system settings or preferences to a timed routine, allowing end-users in busy settings to remain focused on their work, rather than making adjustments to their audio system. An example of this might be the introduction of a subwoofer setting in the evening to help increase the party mood.
System management is also made easier through the ability to upload and download system files, so they could easily be transported to another site as necessary. Finally, WebApp 1.2 introduces a system diagram generator with DRAW.IO compatibility, enabling system integrators to easily share an overview of the planned system.
All the features of WebApp 1.2 are also available in the offline WebApp Desktop Demo which is compatible with Mac and PC. This allows installers and system integrators to get familiar with all the features of WebApp

France - From 23 June to 7 July 2023, the Capitole de Toulouse National Opera hosted Mefistofele, an opera adapted from Goethe's famous tragedy. Directed by Jean-Louis Grinda, the opera took place within a conch-shaped video set on which Arnaud Pottier's video creation was projected.
With a base width of 15.75m, a top width of 8.70m and a height of over 9m, the imposing quarter sphere occupied the entire stage space of the Théâtre du Capitole, serving as an immersive backdrop for the artists on stage. While such a set offered perfect immersion in the heart of the work throughout the three-hour opera, the AV production team faced several challenges with its installation and calibration.
Pierre-Emmanuel Triffault, head of audiovisual at the Capitole de Toulouse Opera, explains: "The main challenge came from the shape of this projection surface. How can we get sufficient light power to evenly cover such curved surface, and how can we position the projectors knowing that there are singers on stage and the projectors must not be too noisy, nor project onto the singers' faces?"
This opera accompanied by its video production having already been performed at the Monte-Carlo Opera in the past, the projection system then used was recommended for the Toulouse dates. "The recommended positioning of the video-projectors was very restrictive, and we were unable to set it up in our hall" reports Pierre-Emmanuel Triffault.
On the advice of Renaud Gindre, video consultant on the project, the Capitole de Toulouse Opera's AV team turned to various so
UK - Technology provider Pinnacle, in partnership with audio solutions distributor Audiologic, has successfully implemented a cutting-edge, flexible remotely managed Teams Room at Lubbock Fine, a prominent London accountancy and business advisory services firm.
In response to the evolving demands of a hybrid workforce, and the need for seamless remote client interactions, Lubbock Fine sought to modernise its meeting room facilities. Their primary objective was to establish a Microsoft Teams Room that offered both flexibility in room layout and the ability to make changes remotely without requiring on-site technical support.
The project began with the selection of Logitech Rally as the camera solution, primarily due to its compatibility with the existing room booking display portal. Consequently, the focus shifted to identifying the ideal audio solution for Lubbock Fine's largest meeting space.
Mitch Tuff, sales team leader at Pinnacle, explained: “Features such as mute synchronisation and remote management were critical requirements, as well as the capacity for in-house IT teams to provide ongoing support."
It was critical that the system could operate autonomously without on-site intervention, as the current hybrid working arrangement wouldn’t always guarantee that support staff would be available on-site.
Through discussions with Jess Raraty, business manager at Audiologic, the Yamaha Adecia wireless solution emerged as the clear choice - a Microsoft Teams certified Dante system, which uses familiar Ethernet components and PoE al
Spain - Holoplot’s authorised distributor in Spain and Portugal, Sound Architecture, collaborated with Ilusovi Servicios to deploy the X1 Matrix Array at Marbella's boutique Starlite Occident 2023 Festival.
Already gracing some of the world’s most renowned venues, including the largest sound system install on the planet at Sphere Las Vegas, as well as installations at The Beacon Theatre in New York and at Lightroom in London, Starlite Occident marked the first outdoor live show deployment of X1.
Starlite Occident is a three-month-long extravaganza set in a transformed quarry. It hosts an impressive line-up of both UK and Spanish artists, which this year included Tom Jones, Pablo López, Iggy Pop, the Black Eyed Peas, Marta Sánchez, and Luis Fonsi.
The Holoplot X1 Matrix Array had caught the attention of the festival's production team, with Aaron Guerrero, lead audio engineer, being particularly impressed by the system’s ability to deliver precise sound control, both horizontally and vertically, ensuring optimal audio experiences for audiences across all seating areas.
“After seeing the system in action at the ISE trade show in January, I immediately called Aaron to explain what I had heard,” says Jose Manuel Jimenez, owner of Ilusovi Servicios. “The conversation quickly progressed, and for us it moved on from being more than a simple purchase of a system to a strategic deal and partnership which could create many opportunities for our company in the future. We see X1 as a game-changer in the audio industry, offering exceptional c
UK - After their memorable double header weekend - when they supplied Martin Audio PA rigs to stages at Glastonbury and in support of Queens of the Stone Age at Cardiff Castle - rental partner SWG Events were back in the Castle grounds for shows with Sir Tom Jones.
The second of three shows saw support by another native son, Stereophonics front man Kelly Jones, this time leading his own spin-off band, Far From Saints.
Cardiff Castle has become a new venue for SWG Events, and so a meticulous design was undertaken for Sir Tom Jones where the optimisation of the system was of paramount importance, as SWG head of audio, Simon Purse explained. “The PA had to avoid the walls surrounding the Castle green to avoid any slapback. This was crucial and having DISPLAY [D3 software] really helped. Also, since the castle is in the middle of the City Centre, keeping noise pollution to a minimum was essential -and we had no reported issues offsite at all, as was also the case with Queens of the Stone Age.”
The stage is a permanent fixture at the Castle throughout the summer. “Previously we had left and right hang of 12 WPL and an out-hang of 10 WPC on stage right to cover some of the audience and the disabled access platform, but we also deployed a similar out-hang on stage left to add to the symmetry of the system.
“Everything worked seamlessly as WPC sounds so similar to the WPL, you don’t have to do a lot to it since it is voiced the same.”
There was another slight modification in that the WPC delay, which they had originally imposed more
Estonia - To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Estonian Olympic Committee, president Urmas Sõõrumaa hosted a reception for hundreds of guests that took place at the Adila Retreat Centre near Tallinn. The event was organised by Global Productions with equipment supplied by funTIME Showservice.
Guests were greeted with drinks and had the chance to mingle with each other before listening to presentations from speakers who stood on a stage that was put together using Showgear’s Mammoth Dex. Surrounding the stage, televisions mounted on Milos Pro-30 Step G trusses showed great Estonian sporting moments. To enhance the atmosphere, eight Showtec Studio Beams and twelve Showtec LED Light Bar 8s were used.
After the presentations, guests were treated to an extensive tour of Adila’s 10-hectare grounds with information directly broadcast to individuals through DAP’s Silent Disco headphones. With a range of up to 450m between the Silent Disco transmitter and the headphones, the Silent Disco system was perfect for this situation.
UK - Twenty-six years after Oasis’ legendary Knebworth gig, Liam Gallagher drew in audiences as a solo performer in front of 80,000 fans at the same outdoor British venue, a monumental return to form which gave us Gallagher’s third live album, Knebworth 22 (Live).
Gallagher then embarked on an intimate, eight-show UK tour which included London haunt, KOKO, a venue production manager Davey Murphy knows well. “I worked in-house between 2008 and 2014, so I have a lot of experience with the venue. I’ve seen a whole array of artists come through, so I really looked forward to this show,” he begins.
Murphy has worked with Skan since joining the Gallagher camp five years ago, citing the company's dedication and quality service as just two of the reasons their relationship continues to grow.
“The support directors Chris Fitch and Abby Llewellyn offered me when I came in as Liam’s PM was amazing. You don’t get many company directors taking such an active role, but that's just the way they work at Skan.
“When we were prepping for two of Liam’s stadium shows in 2022, the support was unbelievable. With widespread shortages across the industry, Skan really went above and beyond to make the shows happen by devising a whole series of plans to get us enough PA and crew. Just knowing you have the best people such as Matt Vickers, Tom Tunney, Nick Ellins-Stagg, and Alvin Russ working in the office and warehouse takes a lot of the pressure off.”
FOH engineer Sam Parker agrees: “I’ve worked with Skan since 2011, they’ve

The company’s offices in Asia are also implementing sustainability efforts, including battery recharging for associates, renewable energy programmes and recyclable carton exchanges with vendors.
Facilities in Mexico utilise skylights for illumination, along with photocells, to reduce energy use.
New products will be packaged using 75% recyclable and/or renewable materials in 2023.
Shure has joined the Sustainable Packaging Coalition as it improves product packaging to be more sustainable.
