Modulo Pi servers drive Monte-Carlo gala

Monaco - Organised by the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, the Monte-Carlo Gala for Planetary Health was held on 24 September on the terraces of the Monte-Carlo Opera.
Dedicated to ‘Ocean, Earth, and Humanity’, an audience of ‘patrons, decision-makers, artists, and scientists’ gathered under an immersive dome.
For this event, designed and produced by the event agency TUFF Consult, the technical setup relied on five Modulo Kinetic and one Modulo Player, supplying 1,500sq.m of projection.
Since 2006, the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation has been working to protect the environment and promote sustainable development on a global scale. Since its creation, more than 540 projects have been achieved by the foundation’s international branches located in France, the United States, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Canada, Germany, Italy, Singapore, Spain, and China.
Running from 21-27 September, the Planetary Health Week reached its climax with its Gala held in the specific context of the COVID-19 pandemic. Presided by H.S.H Prince Albert II of Monaco with Sting as guest of honour, the gala brought together patrons, decision-makers, artists, and scientists to discover the initiatives carried out by the Foundation.
During the charity dinner and fund-raising auction, guests were immersed in images created by the studio Spectre Lab, featuring galaxies, forests, and ocean floors. To produce this immersive space, A/V provider Fosphor relied on 22 x Barco UDX-4K40 and four 20K Panasonic video-projectors to illuminate a half sphere of 1,500sq.m.
The Modulo Kinetic media server solution by Modulo Pi completed the setup: one Modulo Kinetic Designer workstation and four Modulo Kinetic V-Node servers were used to feed 22 of the video projectors. To give the impression of one single image projected on the half-sphere and enveloping the audience, the setup and adjustment of video-projectors was key.
The technical team could rely on the 3D tools available in Modulo Kinetic: A 3D model of the half sphere was imported in Modulo Kinetic, video-projectors were selected within the media server’s internal library, and pre-positioned in the 3D scene.
The 2D curve warping functions in Modulo Kinetic helped correct and fine-tune the projection. In addition, a Modulo Player media server was used for three video-projectors in charge of projecting on sliding doors on stage.
