Thursday, 10 March 2022

USA/Canada - Evolve Technology has expanded its partnership with Montreal-based Theatrixx Technologies by adding two new products to its inventory of Theatrixx equipment for sale, rent and lease in the US.
The new products are the North American-designed xVision Nomad 2.6mm indoor LED display and hardware-based media player, the xPressCue. They join Evolve’s roster of Theatrixx video converters, power distribution equipment and the 2.5mm LED Totem, which have been available for the past year.
Evolve is the launch customer for the xVision Nomad 2.6mm indoor LED display; it is the first company to take orders for and offer an inventory of those new LED panels for US clients.
“Our new 2.6mm display is the first to feature TPEP (Titanium and Polymer Edge Protection) technology that offers unparalleled LED protection ” explains Jacques Tessier, CEO of Theatrixx Technologies. “Most LED products below 4mm are fragile and therefore often viewed as a short-term investment. We are proud to introduce TPEP technology and bring a definitive solution to this problem. In addition, our new LED is one of the first with a 7,680Hz refresh rate. This means it has a greater dynamic range and colour depth and can it therefore be used successfully for XR production.”
“Evolve is known for bringing new and innovative products to market that will hold up to the rigors of the road and prove to be more reliable on site,” comments Evolve CEO Tyler Mayne. “Theatrixx’s new LED is robust and reliable with a workhorse cabinet. We have tested it and believe

cts-ayrtonCTS AVL adds Ayrton Khamsin and Mistral
Thursday, 10 March 2022

USA - Nashville-based CTS AVL, a full-service audio, video and lighting company specialising in live events, has expanded its lighting inventory with a large complement of Ayrton Khamsin profile and Mistral-S ultra-compact spot luminaires. ACT Entertainment is the exclusive distributor of Ayrton lighting fixtures in North America.
CTS AVL had been an audio company for almost 40 years when it branched out to video and lighting about half-a-dozen years ago. The addition of Ayrton Khamsins and Mistrals, the company’s first Ayrton purchases, offers more high-end lighting options for customers across all markets and across the US.
“We needed a high-output fixture with framing shutters and an LED source,” says lead lighting technician, Carter Ranson. “We were looking for something with a big feature set. I saw Khamsins in use on the road and loved the fixture, and from the research I did they seemed very robust. Then I got my hands on Khamsin at LDI 2021.”
He expects CTS AVL’s roster of Khamsins to be used mostly as key lights thanks to their even, flat field. They will also be in the rig to create aerial effects and light scenic elements.
“We’re getting ready to do several large-scale corporate projects back-to-back, so there was a big push to get the Khamsins in for those events,” notes CTS AVL vice president, Mike Taylor.
The Mistrals will be slated for aerial effects and back lighting, according to Ranson, who saw the fixtures at LDI and in use at Nashville’s famed Ryman Auditorium. “We love how small they are for su

methodMethod Events stages The Drumsheds’ final shows
Tuesday, 8 March 2022

UK - The Drumsheds signalled the end of its tenure as a temporary venue in London with a series of sold out 10,000-capacity shows, staged by Method Events for Broadwick Live.
The venue, which is situated in Enfield, North London, consists of four lofty warehouses on a previously derelict, 10-acre industrial site. It was procured on a temporary lease in summer 2019 by Broadwick Live, who entrusted the delivery of several high-profile shows and a festival at the venue to Method Events. The lease has now been returned to Enfield Council, which is redeveloping the site as part of its £6bn, 25-year Meridian Water regeneration programme.
Over the past three years, Method Events have delivered a number of different shows at The Drumsheds. These included Field Day festival in 2019, and a series of summer festivals in 2021 headlined by Above & Beyond, Defected and Pendulum. The Drumsheds’ final three shows - The Hydra: To Be & Not To Be and a Hospitality Records New Year’s event - took place between November and January. They welcomed 10,000 attendees each and featured line-ups including Four Tet, Nina Kraviz, Jeff Mills and Andy C.
Method played a pivotal role in the transformation of the site from a disused space which was hidden by a thick carpet of overgrown vegetation, into one of London’s most vibrant and unique venues. They overcame a number of challenges at the site including proximity to an operating business park, as well as the fact it is flanked on two sides by canals which are protected by the Environment Agency. Tuesday, 8 March 2022

UK - When AV technology provider Anna Valley held its 2022 showcase at Tobacco Dock in London’s Docklands, it relied on a number of partners to ensure that this Event Odyssey - designed to reveal the techniques and tools now required in an ever-evolving event landscape - was conducted in not only a high impact environment, but also a safe and sanitised one.
This was vital as visitors were guided through a number of environments, exploring the possibilities that extended reality, motion capture, holographic projection and other audio-visual solutions have to offer.
Providing this assurance to attendees during the week-long showcase were Entec UVC SafeClean - a recent start-up by the Entec Group. They provided a suite of products to ensure not only the purification of air transmission but also that all surfaces were cleaned and all pathogens removed. These included the Thor UVC mobile disinfection robot, Zeus - a smart, cabinet-based surface decontaminator, which is effective against all known pathogens, EIR 2000 high-capacity air filtration unit and four Goldensea Uvair 216 air purifiers.
These are already being used regularly by Entec’s sister company (and long-term Anna Valley partner) Chameleon Event Production. Entec MD, Noreen O’Riordan, explains: “Chameleon and Anna Valley have been working together successfully for several years and so I approached [Anna Valley director of business development] Dan Orchard, asking if they would like to use our UVC services to give confidence to their guests. pak-pr-imageVuWall introduces PAK video wall solution
Monday, 28 February 2022

Canada - VuWall is launching PAK, a solution for deploying and managing modular video walls in AV-over-IP environments. PAK is a networked, multi-decode node that can operate as a stand-alone device or be stitched with other nodes to build an IP-based video wall that is infinitely scalable. It simplifies video wall project deployments by reducing the number of connections and eliminating a single point of failure, reducing project risk, and offering improved reliability.
"If we peek behind many of today's video walls, we'd expect to see an incredible amount of expensive hardware and lengthy cable runs snaking from an overcrowded rack that takes many labour hours to deploy," says Mark Schmidt, chief technology officer of VuWall. "Unlike traditional video wall systems, it's extremely easy to build video walls with PAK. Whether large or small, all that's required are PAK appliances. To increase the size of a video wall, simply add a PAK. The only spare component needed to keep in stock is the PAK, reducing inventory costs and project complexity."
VuWall's PAK device features four HDp60 outputs or one 4Kp60 output and multiformat decoding up to 32 HD streams per device, including H.264, MPEG2, MPEG4, NDI, PNG, JPEG and VNC/remote desktops or virtualized browsers. studio-technologies-and-all-mobile-video1AMV selects Studio Technologies for NYE
Thursday, 24 February 2022

USA - All Mobile Video (AMV) managed the pool feed for New Year’s Eve in Times Square, capturing audio and video of the crowd, its various stages, and the ball drop itself for the major broadcasters.
The company worked closely with production directors from multiple networks, such as ABC and Univision, to capture key events, including Journey’s performance for Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve. When AMV built out its new all IP, Dante enabled Eclipse truck this past year, the company relied on intercom solutions from Studio Technologies.
AMV incorporated Studio Technologies Dante compatible beltpacks into the new Eclipse truck, including 25 Model 374A Four-Channel Intercom Beltpacks and eight Model 348 Intercom Stations. According to engineer-in-charge Ian Vysick, building a new IP-based truck meant AMV had to reinvent its entire workflow for the New Year’s Eve production, as all the equipment had to function with Audio-over-Ethernet connections established across Times Square.
Vysick and the AMV team used the Eclipse truck as the basis for the production and then expanded on the intercom system to accommodate the scope and needs of the New Year’s event.
The enhanced comms system was based on an RTS ODIN digital intercom matrix with six Studio Technologies Model 362 Listen-Only Beltpacks, an additional 18 Model 374A beltpacks, as well as the eight Model 348 Intercom Stations from the Eclipse truck. Each Studio Technologies beltpack was assigned to a specific location, with local interface boxes housing the wiring

xytechXytech MediaPulse helps 5stream run smoothly
Wednesday, 23 February 2022

Australia - When global streaming provider 5stream needed a configurable solution to streamline their scheduling and resource management, they discovered MediaPulse was the right fit. 5stream deployed Xytech’s MediaPulse to streamline the operations of their Broadcast Services division.
“5stream is a rapidly growing business. We previously relied on a homebrew system of Google Calendars, spreadsheets and custom CSV scrapers to manage over 1000 events each month,” says Mitchell Kalika, general manager at 5stream. “With increasing resource requirements and complexity across all our jobs, our existing system is no longer suitable, and we needed a solution to streamline our operations. MediaPulse allows us to effectively book and manage the large quantity of work and helps streamline and visualise complex broadcast workflows to reduce setup time for our MCR and Presentation operators.”
MediaPulse Transmission is an additional solution the team plans to implement to better visualise 5stream’s complex workflows and assign operators and MCR staff for non-automated jobs.
“MediaPulse’s main calling card for us was the ease of centralising all our various scheduling and resource management systems into one single point of truth, and reduce the time required to onboard new operators and get them up and running. With our previous system, it could take up to six months, given how the information was distributed,” explains Kalika. “As a cloud-first company, the cloud-based SaaS model works well with our ethos of remote operation. christieChristie projectors add brilliance to light garden
Friday, 11 February 2022

South Korea - Christie laser projectors are delighting visitors with an array of mesmerising nighttime projections in an outdoor park located in the northeastern part of Seoul.
Known as Nowon Light Garden, it is situated in an area surrounding the old Hwarangdae Station, which was one of the stops along the now-defunct old Gyeongchun Line. During the day, the park’s biggest attractions are old steam locomotives and narrow-gauge trains that used to ply this route. When the sun goes down, a 400m section of the railway park is transformed into a garden of lights. Decorated with themes of Secret Garden, Tree of Life, Music Garden, Fantasy Train Station, Milky Way Garden, and Forest Fairyland, Nowon Light Garden is the first permanent night lighting park in South Korea.
Adding to the illuminations are projections on the façade of Hwarangdae Station using a Christie D16WU-HS 1DLP laser projector, an interactive game zone using two Christie DWU630-GS 1DLP laser projectors, and panoramic projections at the Forest Fairyland using five Christie LWU900-DS 3LCD laser projectors. The projectors were supplied by Christie’s longstanding partner, SNC Alliance, while the installation and commissioning were accomplished by Mega Link, a local systems integrator.
