UK - XL Events installed two large LED screens in London's Trafalgar Square to facilitate one of the main public viewing areas for live TV transmission of the UK's royal wedding between Prince William and Catherine Middleton.

XL was working for marketing and event producers Jack Morton Worldwide, who co-ordinated four similar format/concept sites across London for the wedding. An estimated 1m people lined the streets to catch some of the action, which was broadcast worldwide to a global audience of approximately 2bn. It was the most important UK Royal event for 30 years.

The screens were both made up from Lighthouse R7 panels and were positioned around Nelson's Column. One measured 80sq.m and faced the National Gallery, and the other was 40sq.m, facing eastward pointing down the Strand. Both were rigged on special screen support 'goal post' structures.

USA / UK - London-based motion graphics studio The Darkroom, joined forces with global advertising agency BBDO to promote HBO's new TV series, Game of Thrones.

The Darkroom has created a world-first projection (watch it here), which was shown on an 80ft billboard from April 8 - 17 in the Hollywood and Highland Center in Los Angeles, for the US promotion of the show.

The projection was designed and produced by The Darkroom's creative director Bruce Ferguson, who designed the projection to be exclusive, while staying true to the design elements of the show, such as the gate, shields, and the sword, along with the series strap-line, 'winter is coming'.

USA - Seattle's Experience Music Project (EMP) has installed Barco's C7 to provide a dramatic video display for its live music shows and entertainment acts.

Barco was selected to upgrade EMP's visualization platform with a curved, 60' x 33,' 7mm indoor LED display which spans the width of the innovative special event venue. The new display was unveiled at the recent debut of Nirvana: Taking Punk to the Masses exhibition, in which it showcased a candid retrospective of the grunge luminaries' musical history.

Despite containing more than six times the number of LED's as the previous LED display, Barco's C7 uses less power, which minimized the need for additional electrical or HVAC upgrades.
