UK - Summer cocktails hosted by WiSE (Women in Stage Entertainment) went down a storm at the ABTT show. WiSE Industry sponsors were invited to dabble in cocktail design by inventing their own cocktails to raise money for industry charity, Light Relief.

The cocktail line up included: the Avolites Ruby Rum, Charcoalblue Cooler, White Light Wimms, Rosco Lux Sangria, Phillips Entertainment Blue Hawaii and the drink with no name from MA Lighting.

Whilst sampling the various concoctions on offer, WiSE sponsors, members, guests and the press had the chance to network, make new friends and give generously to charity. Ultimately the event raised a respectable £137 for Light Relief, all in the space of just a couple of hours.

USA - Bill Sapsis has announced the dates and location of the next North American Theatre Engineering and Architecture Conference (NATEAC). The conference will be held at the Hilton Hotel in mid-town New York City on 22 and 23 July 2012.

"I can think of no better place to hold a theatre conference", noted Sapsis, "than in the heart of the theatre district in New York City. In addition to two days of excellent panels and discussions, the attendees will have access to the best of what New York City has to offer."

UK - PLASA Events has announced the first details of the PLASA 2011 Education and Learning Programme, which runs on all four days of PLASA 2011, at Earls Court in London from 11-14 September 2011.

Headlining the programme is the 2011 Gottelier Masterclass presented by last year's winner of the Gottelier Award and one of the best known designers in the industry, Fred Foster. The theme of his talk will be a huge draw since his title is A Call To Arms - We Must Protect the Quality of Light.

Says Foster, "Faced with the headlong rush towards 'energy efficient' lighting, we as an industry must join together to defend the quality of light. While we have a duty to make and use more efficient sources of light, we must also work to ensure that these sources provide the beautiful full spectrum of light." UK - Mojo Barriers helped ensure the safety of thousands of Foo Fighters' fans when the band performed two sell out concerts live at the Milton Keynes Bowl earlier this month. The shows took place at the open-air amphitheatre on 2 and 3 July, and were attended by over 45,000 fans each night.

Mojo Barriers' UK offices worked closely with the production and promoter SJM Concerts, to install a 600m barrier system. The configuration was one of Mojos' customary designs encompassing the B stage , thrust and primary barrier as one continuous system surrounded by a secondary line for both a safe zone and a 'golden circle'. Mojo also had a 200m bar barrier system on site for Central Catering. Mojo Barriers' supervisor Greg Johnson, oversaw the installation.

Ireland - Production Services Ireland (PSI) supplied full lighting production, rigging, crew and technical support for the Vodafone (second) Stage at the 2011 Oxegen Festival at Punchestown Racecourse, County Kildare.

It was the first time that the Belfast and Dublin based company has serviced a major stage at the high profile MCD promoted festival, which featured a line up including (on the Vodafone Stage) The Swedish House Mafia, The Strokes, Deadmau5, Tinie Tempah, The National and Pendulum.

UK - Rental company, APR Audio, provided PA and control systems for the West Holts and John Peel stages at Glastonbury 2011, selecting Allen & Heath iLive digital mixing systems to manage FOH and monitor mixing duties, which were also networked for audio and control sharing.

On the John Peel stage, APR chose an iDR-64 MixRack connected to the largest control surface in the range, the iLive-176, for monitors. Twelve onstage mixes were provided, plus LR side-fills and up to eight stereo IEM feeds. Engineer, Fabrizio Piazzini, additionally used the iLive MixPad app to make final tweaks. For FOH, an iLive-144 Control Surface was chosen, connected via Cat 5 ACE to a modular iDR10 MixRack installed onstage.

The systems were networked to provide input sharing and remote control via the iLive Editor PC software.

UK - The Roland V-1600HD Multi Format Live Video Switcher was recently chosen by Digital Insanity as graphics switcher for the main stage at T4 On The Beach, a one day music festival which is held every July on the beach at Weston Super Mare.

T4 On The Beach is hosted by and televised for Channel 4 and consists of a number of contemporary pop and rock acts performing live in front of an audience of 50,000 people.

Digital Insanity, a video solutions provider specialising in content creation and show operation has been providing the video graphics for the event since 2005 - the first year the event featured a video screen.

UK - After several months in the planning, news of an exciting new feature exclusive to PLASA 2011 has been announced - a major shoot-out of leading LED lighting fixtures, hosted by the STLD (Society of Television Lighting and Design).

Lighting Designer Paul Middleton has teamed the STLD with PLASA to bring visitors a unique tradeshow experience, where they will be able to directly compare LED lighting fixtures in three different areas of the 240sq.m space.

Middleton comments, "The STLD has been looking at staging a major LED-based event for some time now, having previously organised events at Pinewood Studios and elsewhere on the topics of consoles, moving heads and generic lights. We felt it was the right time to do another event and LED lighting was the obvious subject, basing the event on the simple question: 'can you light a TV set entirely with LED fixtures?'"<

The Theatres Trust will return to PLASA 2011 with an expanded version of its innovative Ecovenue feature, the area that gives visitors the chance to see how 48 pioneering London theatres are putting sustainability into practice.

Located in Earls Court 2, the feature takes the form of a theatre-in-miniature, complete with 'auditorium', 'stage', 'backstage', 'foyer' and 'box office'. Australia - Industry members from all over Australia flocked to Darling Harbour in the thousands last week to visit ENTECH 2011, the trade show for the latest pro audio, lighting and audio visual equipment.

Unaudited figures released this week by ETF, the show organiSers, indicate that there were 4562 unique visitors to ENTECH 2011 with 393 of them coming back for a second look during the three day tradeshow.

"We are very pleased with these recording breaking results, they surpass our previous best show in 2004", stated ENTECH's event director Robby Clark. "The co-location with SMPTE was a huge success with exhibitors at both shows seeing the positive impact on visitor numbers."

Austria - The Donauinselfest - or Danube Island Festival - is a huge, free annual event that attracts millions of visitors to Vienna each June. This year, rental company Concept Solutions provided two DiGiCo SD8s for the Festival's Front of House and monitor duties, supplied to them by DiGiCo's Austrian distributor, TON Eichinger.

Concept Solution's Raphael Rupprecht explains what was involved at this truly massive event. "This is a three-day festival featuring open-air stages around the island," he says. "We started working at 9am every day, bands arrived at 10am for soundcheck and the show itself ran from 3pm to 12pm. It was a huge workload - we had to set up our standard backline, plus the individual amps and instruments for each band and sometimes there were as many as four drum kits on stage waiting to be miked up - but all acts ran smoothly and the overall m
