UK - Maltbury will once again be exhibiting at PLASA Focus: Leeds (17-18 April 2012).

"This year we have some exciting new projects to show you including our work with electricity generating pavements - Pavegen," says the company.

Maltbury Staging has made its name in the performing arts field, but in recent years has worked on a number of collaborative projects in a range of very different areas.

"It is true that these projects often involve people standing on a raised structure but nowadays it is as likely to be a fitter in a factory, an engineer down a railway shaft or a group of excitable people producing electricity simply by stepping on a paving stone," the company adds.

But this is no ordinary paving stone. Pavegen is a revolutionary way to generate electricity: requiring no connection to the national grid and needing no special effort by those generating it.

Maltbury's work with Pavegen has led to the company to develop bespoke staging units to house the Pavegen slabs as well as batteries, cables etc. These can be taken virtually anywhere, linked together just as you would build a modular stage. "Just lay them down and, as soon as someone walks on them they start generating electricity. And if that sounds too good to be true then come and test it for yourself. Recent Pavegen stages have been spotted in Bulgaria, Portugal, Greece and London. And now we're bringing one to Leeds, where you can test it for yourself. It's on our stand - RA C5 - so come and have a go!"
