SLMC 2012 September/October dates confirmed
South Africa - SLMC - Stage Lighting Master Class - is a two-day master class about the art and craft of stage lighting design, and is the only event of its kind in South Africa. This year it will take place in Johannesburg at the Market Theatre Laboratory on 27-28 September 2012 and will be in Cape Town at the Artscape Opera Stage on 2-3 October 2012.

SLMC was first held in 2001 and then again in 2004 and 2007. After a long break, it is finally returning. Sponsors for the event include Artscape, CamQuip, Declan Randall Lighting Design, DWR Distribution, Electrosonic, ETC, LEE Filters, The Market Theatre, Philips Selecon, Prosound and Gearhouse Splitebeam.

The course is aimed at anyone who is interested in stage lighting and theatre, from technicians and designers, to stage managers, event crew, directors, choreographers and students.

Participants need not have any previous knowledge about lighting design, as everything is covered from the basics to the more advanced design techniques. It does not matter whether you work primarily in theatre, live events, television or corporate entertainment, SLMC is a great event and a fantastic opportunity to meet other people in your industry and network with professional designers and product suppliers from around the world.

This year there is a large focus on LED lighting and technology and the use of LED in current stage design. With LED becoming more and more prevalent, we will share some of the things we have learned in using LED as "another tool in the designer's toolbox".

Richard Pilbrow (international theatre lighting legend) will be joining the panel of South African lighting designers, Declan Randall and Mannie Manim.
