USA - Symetrix, provider of signal processing for the professional audio and installed sound markets, is shipping new upgrades to the SymNet Audio Matrix family of products including version 4.0 of the SymNet Designer software application and new hardware.

SymNet Designer 4.0 adds a new level of flexibility and capability to the successful SymNet platform. New features include a revamped system architecture with 1,000 presets, dynamic feedback control with Feedback Fighter and notch filter modules, additional levels off security, power failure indicator, and nine more matrix mixer modules, which further expand the already comprehensive feature set of the system. Improvements in navigation, labelling, communication, graphics, and firmware management contribute to easier and more straightforward system design and layout.

SymNet now has digital I/O functionality thanks to the introduction of DigI/O 12x12DSP. This new DSP device supports twelve channels (six pairs) of AES/EBU and Toslink digital audio formats in and out. In order to maximize all 12 channels, an additional hardware piece, known as the HomerLink breakout, is coupled to the DigI/O 12x12DSP via standard Cat 5 cable. This setup allows a digital console, for example, at the FOH location, to interface directly to a SymNet ring in a rack room up to 100m away, with extremely low latency.

"This is the fifth significant upgrade to the SymNet system since its introduction in late 2001," says Jim Latimer, director of sales. "We're constantly listening to consultants and system integrators from all over the world, and doing our best to provide the solutions they're looking for. Our ongoing development initiative is to focus on making this system as powerful, flexible, and intuitive as it can be."

Software upgrades, and additional information, are available as free downloads from the SymNet web page. Firmware upgrades are included in the Designer application release and are executed from the SymNet Designer environment. Site files created in previous versions of SymNet Designer are compatible with the new version and can be loaded directly into upgraded hardware.
