Belimo’s new experience centre
UK - Belimo is a market leader in the development, production, and sales of field devices for the energy-efficient control of heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems.
Their UK office, located in Shepperton, Surrey, wanted to create an experience centre that would display their products and services, as well as provide a space for training, meetings, and events for their customers and partners.
Belimo approached Marquee One, part of Marquee Installations, and based on the same business park, to design and install a bespoke AV solution that would meet their needs and expectations. Marquee One Director, Luke Nowacki, welcomed the enquiry and arranged a meeting with Richard Steel, the Belimo UK technical manager. Nowacki needed to find out exactly what was required and how they wanted to use the room, to design a specific, tailored solution.
Steel explained that the experience centre would be used for various purposes, such as product demonstrations, training sessions, presentations, and workshops. He also wanted the room to be available for clients to use and to rent by other local businesses who needed a professional and modern venue for their events. Therefore, he wanted the AV system to be easy to use, reliable, and versatile.
Marquee One worked closely with Belimo’s IT team to ensure security and compatibility during the installation process. Nowacki emphasised the value of keeping communication open during the installation, in order to report and fix any issues efficiently.
The central challenge of the project was finding the best solution for controlling all aspects of a presentation or training session from one place in the room, as requested by the client. Nowacki opted for a Crestron control system, enabling control of the house lights from the lectern.
The installation features a lectern at the front of the room, where meeting leaders could control the room. This includes lighting and the presenting screen. A Crestron TSW-770-B-S control panel on the lectern, featuring a 7” display, interfaces seamlessly with all of the equipment within the boardroom.
The Crestron control system also features a wireless presentation function that allowed users to connect their laptops to the screen without cables or adapters.
An Avocor AVF-7550 interactive touch screen that allows users to sketch on presentations during training. Annotations could be saved to office documents and emailed out to participants post session.
Constructing this function, with custom programming and the addition of an interface DIN-DALI-2, allowed Crestron to control the Dali light fittings. As a result, individual lights can be dimmed, turned up, and turned down from the lectern as well. The lighting controls have three prefixed settings for ease: present, video conferencing, and training. The present setting lowers the house lights, while the video conferencing setting lowers the front lights above the camera to avoid glare. Lastly, the training setting raises all lights.
The result was a functional experience centre that exceeded Belimo’s expectations. Richard Steel praised Marquee One for their professionalism, expertise, and customer service:
"It has been a great journey with Marquee One, from point of initial enquiry to handover and beyond. The quality of the installation is first class and fits our requirements perfectly. Not only was the installation carried out to a very high standard, but the after sales support has been fantastic, full training was received and slight adaptations to pinpoint our specific needs were carried out quickly and in a professional manner. I have nothing but praise for the service we have received from Marquee One, especially Luke Nowacki whose technical knowledge, expertise and customers service has been second to none.”
