UK - The Events Division of presentation and communication company, DRP Group, was one of several companies who boosted their lighting inventory at last week's PLASA Show in London by opting to purchase the new GLP Lighting Impression luminaire from UK distributor LED-Lites.

The Kidderminster-based conference and events specialists placed their order for 24 of the RGB LED spots which compete favourably against discharge lamps - for example, they offer greater output than a 575W washlight (with their white version) and in excess of 700W (in the RGB version), say LED-Lites.

Ian Ruhback, from DRP's technical division, was impressed with the output from the 90 Luxeon K2 LEDs, which give it the capability to achieve a higher light yield than any existing comparable LED fixture, since 30 each of the RGB colour LEDs are able to create the entire colour spectrum.

DRP Group had previously sub-hired in GLP Impressions for use on other events and were thus aware of their capabilities. "We found the brightness amazing," said Ruhback. "Because of their speed of movement it is possible to build up some really nice effects, while the Impressions are sufficiently versatile to be used creatively on different corporate events."

The DRP Group offers a full turnkey events production operation for its clients, including finding the most suitable venue. "Although the company has been operating for 28 years, equipment wise we had nothing to speak of until three years ago, since when we have been expanding rapidly."

Ian Ruhback added that whereas the company had previously been concentrating on building up its sound and video hire fleet, it has now focused on lighting. "And with the GLP Impression we have been able to respond to clients' wishes even before they bring up the subject of carbon footprint."

The first event with the new fixtures will be at a conference for Thomas Cook.
