UK - At PLASA 2012, Steinigke will highlight its COB LED technology. German trade journal Soundcheck recently tested some Eurolite spots with the new technology with "impressive results across the board". Single and multi spots were examined: PAR-56 and ML-30 as well as ML-56 models (each single-colored and with RGB), audience blinders, PMB (Performance Bar) and PMC (Performance Cluster).

The testers' special focus was put on the colour illustration and the colour mixture: "The colour mixture of the Eurolite COB spots is really excellent. Thanks to the minimal distance of the diodes in the cluster . . . colour shades are finally a thing of the past. All of the produced colours are extremely convincing - a fact that is also true for colour fields that have been critical up to now: orange, pastel and white."

The tester also had warm words for the practical us

UK - Touted as the future of entertainment lighting for a number of years, LED-based lighting fixtures are now rapidly entering the mainstream, as witness the re-equipping of Dorking Halls in Surrey that White Light has supplied.

The staff at the Halls, a versatile multi-purpose venue that hosts everything from concert recitals to wrestling to conferences to cinema to pantomime, felt that the time had come to replace the existing rig of 1000W Fresnels and Par Cans. The aim of both Michael Knight and Craig Gravett of Dorking Halls was to build a lighting rig that offered more versatility compared to the existing gear while retaining the high-quality illumination and fades the Hall's users expected - all while being more energy-efficient than the previous set-up.

In the first instance, Craig Gravett compiled a list of products that he thought would work well for the venue, inclu

Croatia - Croatian classical superstars 2Cellos played an ecstatic 'homecoming' show in Zagreb Arena in front of 15,000 enthusiastic fans accompanied by the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra, with lighting and set designed by Dalibor Radic.

These were supplied by leading Croatian rental company Eldra d.o.o., from Zagreb, who also supplied sound, staging and video for the concert. The company has made a significant investment in Robe MMX Spots recently.

Dalibor has been working for 2Cellos for about a year. The duo, consisting of Luka Šuli? and Stejepan Hauser met when studying at the Zagreb Academy of Music, and were 'discovered' after uploading a music video cover of their cello-only rendition of Michael Jackson's Smooth Crimin

The goal of the show is to demonstrate how to use ETC LED fixtures to achieve the look of a conventionally-lit show - with full-spectrum colour and naturally-rendered flesh tones - while achieving huge energy savings in a small theatre.

Show director Oanh Nguyen wanted to present a gritty, contemporary version of the classic West Side Story, so he and lighting designer KC Wilkerson discussed using a rig of practical, industrial fixtures - fluorescent, metal-halide, sodium - to achieve an edgier lighting design.
