Both events will be hosted by SSE Audio Group, at their head office in Redditch.

The d&b Remote network workshop is a step by step, hands-on introduction to the d&b control software. The d&b ArrayCalc workshop covers the basics of line array theory and explores the ArrayCalc simulation software for system planning. To gain maximum benefit, participants should have a good basic knowledge of the D6 and D12 amplifiers and be experienced with d&b sound system setup and management. Attendees are required to bring their own laptops.

USA - New from EAW is the Otto Adaptive Subwoofer, the first subwoofer in the company's Adaptive Performance Series headlined by the Anya 3-way full-range loudspeaker system.

Loaded with two 18" woofers - with acoustic energy exiting from four spaced apertures in the corners of the enclosure, Otto can produce 131dB (1 meter, continuous, full-space) with requency response down to 22Hz (-10dB), say EAW.

As with the Anya full-range modules, each Otto transducer is separately powered and processed, allowing multiple directivity patterns to be created from a single module. Also like Anya, Otto modules can readily be combined in arrays to provide increased pattern control and output, the company says.

USA - Known for its high-quality entertainment, Oceans Ten is a popular night club and tourist destination in Miami Beach, Florida, with indoor and outdoor dining areas, live music and DJs and a great location on the beach front.

France - Before American blues-rock titan Joe Bonamassa hit the road this spring for the initial North American leg of his latest world tour, the production team at Special Event Services (SES) knew they needed a highly versatile loudspeaker rig that could handle anything they could throw at it over most of a year and three continents.

UK - The Institute of Sound and Communications Engineers (ISCE) has announced two new training courses to be presented by Tony Stacey MInstSCE. These will take place at Jurys Inn, Watford on September 9 and 10, commencing at 9,30am.

Open to all, the first session, entitled 'Introduction to Sound', is designed to enable delegates to gain a better understanding of what happens to sound after it leaves the loudspeakers.

People interested in this course will want to better understand how sound behaves but not necessarily the mathematics behind it. The course will begin by answering the question, 'What is sound?' and will go on to explain (with visual aids) the various phenomena of sound. By the end of the course attendees will have gained a good understanding of how sound behaves, and hopefully become inspired to delve deeper into the world of sound and communications engineering.

USA - At a recent Lee Brice concert at the University of Oregon, George Relles Sound showcased its brand new Meyer Sound LYON linear sound reinforcement system. Brice's FOH engineer, Wayne Pauley, said: "The LYON system was a real eye-opening experience. It has remarkable clarity and projection, and it seemed like everything was jumping out of the arrays right at you."

Pauley also noticed how the linear performance of LYON changed his mixing approach. "I found I could get a well-defined mix that sounded louder than its true SPL. Everything came together so well that I was surprised when I looked over at the SPL meter."

Relles's purchase includes 14 LYON-M main and six LYON-W wide-coverage line array loudspeakers, adding to an arsenal that includes six 1100-LFC low-frequency control elements and a Galileo Callisto loudspeaker management system.

Dubai - After operating Martin Audio line array systems in its hire fleet for nearly a decade, Dubai-based Almoe AV Production/Rentals has purchased the first MLA (Multi-cellular Loudspeaker Array) in the UAE.

The company placed an initial order for 36 MLA and 12 MLX enclosures with Richard Maunder's company, VTi - Martin Audio's territorial distributor.

"It was an easy decision to opt for the MLA after we had heard the system, its capabilities and the technology that adapts to the ever changing environment," stated Almoe general manager, Glen Dougherty.

Along with Almoe senior sound engineer, Bruno Vitanza, he had originally been invited to attend a live demonstration of MLA back in 2010, and the two men were immediately impressed by its performance in a difficult venue.

USA - EAW has announced that Sound Image has joined its expanding global network of Adaptive Performance Partners with the purchase of an Anya system - which will be immediately deployed on Tom Petty's Hypnotic Eye Tour. Award-winning FOH engineer, Robert Scovill, insisted upon Anya after putting the system through an extensive evaluation at a private event.

"I haven't been this excited about a new approach to PA technology in a couple of decades now," said Scovill. UK - The elections to the European Parliament in mid-May inevitably attracted a huge amount of news coverage from across the continent. Much of the attention was focused on the European Parliament building in Brussels, where a pair of DiGiCo SD10 consoles kept the world's media up to date.

The European Parliament itself commissions all of its broadcast facilities, these are then used to relay feeds to broadcasters; in this case the many who were covering the elections.

UK - While the second half of June saw the eyes of the world focusing on stadiums across Brazil, the UK's most iconic football stadium saw Sennheiser UK helping to deliver a Ball of a very different kind.

The 2014 Capital Radio Summertime Ball took place at Wembley Stadium on 21st June and featured line-up which read like a 'Who's Who' of contemporary pop and DJing talent with 22 high profile names gracing the Wembley stage throughout the day.

As in previous years, Sennheiser UK provided support and technical backup to the Ball's audio provider Adlib. Sennheiser in-ear monitoring was exclusively used throughout the entire event, while the company's wireless microphone systems were also extensively in use.

Norway - A Norwegian venue has employed Yamaha's AFC3 acoustic enhancement system to transform its main auditorium into an acoustically enhanced space.

Opened three years ago, Lørenskog Hus is a multi-purpose municipal venue located 20 minutes from Oslo. Covering 15,000sq.m over eight floors, it features five auditoriums, four cinema screens, seven meeting rooms, a restaurant and a library. Providing a focal point for the regional community, it stages a wide variety of live productions and hosts conferences, corporate and cultural events, as well as showing films and other activities.

"When the venue was built, the goal was to make the acoustics in our main auditorium flexible enough for all genres of music - everything from choirs, marching bands and symphony orchestras to pop, rock and rap," says Kristoffer Engen, Technical Manager at Lørenskog Hus.

USA - Located inside a former Boeing missile factory building in Duluth, Ga., Cross Pointe Church has taken its worship experience to a new level with its recent upgrade to Meyer Sound Mica line array loudspeakers and 1100-LFC low-frequency control elements. The new system replaces its trusty nine-year-old Meyer Sound CQ-2 loudspeaker system, which will continue to serve in a second Cross Pointe campus that will open in late 2014.

Alfred Burgess, pastor of worship and creative arts, reports that the MICA loudspeakers' power and clarity was immediately noticeable. "After the first Sunday, our lead pastor Dr. James Merritt came up to me and said, 'I've just had the best speaking experience of my life,'" says Burgess. France - Now in its ninth year, Hellfest has grown to become one of the three largest festivals in France, attracting more than 150,000 metal fans over its three days. For the second year, rental company Melpomen brought the Nexo STM modular line array down to the peaceful town of Clisson (near Nantes), for a spectacular line-up of rock and heavy metal legends - Aerosmith, Deep Purple, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Status Quo, Rob Zombie, Megadeth and Soundgarden.

Although there are six venues at the Hellfest, the big names appear on the famous twin stages, Main Stage 1 and Main Stage 2. The action alternates between these two, and the PA systems effectively run as one, continuously.

Australia - Greenroom Productions supplies all of the in-house audio and lighting to Canberra's ANU bar as well as other small events around the city. Recently the company purchased a Soundcraft Si Performer 2 console along with a Vi Stagebox as a low-cost expansion option.

Celebrating the 25th anniversary of Freedom Day, marking the end of communist rule in Poland in 1989, this remarkable global gathering saw US President Barack Obama plus 50 European heads of state, the Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski and various royalty attend a special concert in the capital's Castle Square.

Devised by John de Mol and produced by Talpa, Utopia has invited 15 inhabitants to leave their usual lives behind for a full year to create an ideal mini-society of their own in Blaricum, near Hilversum.

Malta - When is an opera house not a house at all? Well, a visit to the centre of Malta's capital city Valletta will soon answer the question. In the very centre is the site of the Royal Opera House, in its heyday a landmark building designed by British architect Edward Middleton Barry who is best known for designing Covent Garden Theatre.

From its opening in 1866 it remained the cultural centre of Malta until 1942 when it suffered extensive damage during a bombing raid. Since then there have been several attempts to reconstruct the site, all of which came to nothing.

Finally, in 2008, renowned architect Renzo Piano submitted plans for an open air venue, built sympathetically among the ruins of the original Opera House. UK - Martin Audio's groundbreaking Multi-Cellular Loudspeaker Array (MLA) system has made Glastonbury history by delivering the highest sound levels to the audience without exceeding noise pollution levels beyond the perimeter.

Making its Glastonbury debut, the system deployed on the Pyramid Stage was impressive in every respect, utilising cabinets from the entire MLA range of loudspeakers. This comprised a total of 72 MLA for the main hangs, eight MLA Compact for stereo in-fill at the pit barrier and four delay positions of 14 MLA each. The latest addition to the range, the MLA Mini, also featured, providing stereo in-fill behind the FOH control structure and onstage coverage of artists' guest viewing platforms. A massive broadside array of 38 MLX stretched across the entire width of the stage to provide sub-bass support to the entire system.

UK - SES worked closely with TV lighting specialists Aurora Lighting Hire Ltd to develop some bespoke IP rated distribution boxes.

Aurora approached SES after an increase in the company's Location work. The company found it was increasingly being asked to handle all aspects of broadcast power for supplying outside broadcast trucks, mobile galleries and satellite uplinks.

Aurora came to SES with an in depth brief incorporating key switchable / variable RCD's to allow total control of all outputs. The units have gone straight into use on the BBC's forthcoming production Tumble at Elstree Film Studios.

Switzerland - When The Olympic Museum in Lausanne reopened recently after a two-year renovation, it made extensive use of audio-visual and interactive techniques that take visitors on what's been called "a multidimensional journey across the Olympic Universe".

Electrosonic designed the AV system, which is simple for visitors to use and offers maximum flexibility for the museum, under subcontract with media producer Centre Screen Productions of Manchester, England. USA - The Roosevelt Road area of Chicago suburb, Berwyn, has its share of up-and-coming music clubs, including recent addition, Wire, which opened last fall in the former Oakwyn Theatre.

Built in 1934 and formerly a mid-century movie house and Teamsters union hall, the 10,000sq.ft space has been completely renovated with an expansive rebuild to house the 400-seat club as well as a mezzanine level with offices, recording studio and VIP area. Further setting Wire apart from the other venues in the area is a RoomMatch loudspeaker system from Bose Professional Systems.
