Corporate audio on the rise as it is, we couldn't have a NAMM show without Behringer signalling its ambitions in the marketplace, and you sometimes get the impression that the company is willing - and able - to rival the conglomerates already mentioned with its single brand. In the press room, Group CEO Michael Deeb gave a timely summary of Behringer's corporate developments, following the announcement of a head-spinning 78 new products, and confidently cited the benefits of establishing a wholly-owned R&D and manufacturing base in China - which the company did in 2001.

"The internalisation of manufacturing operations has brought about faster time to market and cost-effectiveness in production, and product design and development," he said, and anyone with lingering doubts as to whether better products are going to cost even less in the future was obliged to go outside for a quiet moment in the sunshine. The 78 new products unveiled by the German/Asian household name were dominated by MI amplification, but also included a new series of wireless UHF microphones, new EuroRack UB series of mixing consoles with digital FX and additions to the EuroLive series of PA loudspeakers and floor monitors. Over 80% of these new products is promised by the second quarter of 2005 "at the latest".

Behringer's UltraLink UHF wireless mic/receiver set has 320 channels and 24 simultaneously usable systems at a typically envelope-pushing price point. It also features user-defined transmission frequencies on top of the three presets, each of which has eight channels. The receiver has a switch-mode power supply with interchangeable AC plugs for 100V-240V operation. Finally, UltraLink's WMI2000RS true diversity receiver is 19" rack-mountable.EuroLive adds the Professional range featuring the B1520 Pro, B1220 Pro and B1800X Pro; and the Performer range featuring the E1520, E1220 and E1800X.
