UK - Bosch Security Systems has announced the availability of Intellivox PA loudspeakers, which incorporate Digital Directivity Control (DDC), which allows the loudspeaker's sound output to be 'shaped' under PC software control to match the requirements of any venue. This makes them ideal for both general public address and emergency voice evacuation systems in venues such as large halls and exhibition centres, public buildings and entertainment venues, railway stations, airports, churches and cathedrals. The extensive integrated remote monitoring also makes Intellivox loudspeakers extremely reliable and suitable for use in emergency evacuation or voice alarm systems to IEC 60849 and BS5839 part 8 standards.

Each individual loudspeaker in the line-array has its own Class-D amplifier and can be driven independently under the control of a DSP (Digital Signal Processor), resulting in unrivalled acoustic properties. Since the sound pattern is software controlled it is possible to tilt the sound downwards while the loudspeaker remains vertical. Sound can therefore be aimed more accurately at listeners. Speakers can be mounted flat against a wall or in a recess (flush mounted). In this way they can be easily blended into any interior design. The opening angle can also be controlled so sound can be pinpointed very accurately to a distant listening area, or spread widely over a nearby public area. By allowing accurate adjustment of the direction and angle of the sound, all relevant frequencies are present at nearly the same sound pressure level. This means the sound for listeners is not too loud at the front and not too quiet at the back. Intellivox loudspeakers produce extremely small side lobes, which give a much clearer, less 'coloured' sound, even when close to the loudspeakers.

These features plus their very long throw capability, means only a few loudspeakers are required for complete coverage of even the largest venues. These active array loudspeakers come with integrated class-D amplifiers so no additional external amplifiers are required. Each Intellivox loudspeaker produces clear, natural sound for excellent intelligibility of both speech and music. The unrivalled speech intelligibility, reliability and extensive remote monitoring features of Intellivox loudspeakers make them a key element in voice evacuation systems. With Intellivox, systems can be built that comply with both the technical requirements and acoustical demands of IEC 60849 and BS5839 part 8.

Remote monitoring warns operators or a building management, control or evacuation system if a fault develops and the status of each loudspeaker can also be continuously monitored. Intellivox loudspeakers have an external terminal for connecting a sensor that measures the ambient sound pressure level. This information is used by the auto-gain of the loudspeaker amplifiers to constantly adjust the loudspeaker output so it is always the same level above the ambient noise.

All Intellivox loudspeakers have state-of-the-art class-D amplifiers as standard, providing efficient and reliable operation without the need for external amplification. As an added benefit, the presence of a DSP in each loudspeaker means there is no need for extra equalizers. WinControl is a dedicated software package that enables programming, testing and configuring of Intellivox units on a PC. It can be used to specify the electro-acoustical characteristics of the loudspeakers as well as for continuous monitoring, diagnosis and reporting of system status.

The Intellivox family consists of five loudspeaker arrays, each optimised for applications of different size. The range starts with the 67cm long Intellivox-1b, ideal for smaller venues, and extends right up to the almost 5m long Intellivox-6c, which provides extremely clear sound covering distances of up to 70m.
