UK - A ground-breaking new degree course in live sound production has been announced by Britannia Row Productions Training (BRPT), the skills training operation set up by one of the UK's leading audio rental houses, Britannia Row Productions. This unique degree course will give students an intense and comprehensive guide to everything they need to prepare themselves for a career in live sound production, the company says.

The programme is the result of a long period of discussion and planning between BRPT and South Thames College (STC). The Course will be run by STC and validated by the University of Northampton, with BRPT's industry professionals delivering the master class lectures throughout the course. Validation is scheduled for the end of March 2016. Student loans of up to £9,000 per year are available for the course to meet course fees. Students can apply now for places on the course, which will commence in September 2016 through UCAS or directly to South Thames College.

Course places are available, subject to course validation, but if the UCAS deadline is missed, would-be students can apply directly to the college.

The first two years of the degree course are based on BRPT's intensive Live Sound Technology Course at Level 5, which has been expanded. Year 3 has been newly developed at Level 6.

BRPT's managing director, Mike Lowe, says: "We believe that this course is highly unique and relevant to the live sound industry. As employers we have a good insight into what employers are looking for when they recruit and what they will be looking for in the future. When we launched Britannia Row Productions Training and our first short training courses in the summer of 2013, the thought of us building up to a degree course was a hopeful dream that maybe lay ahead somewhere in the dim and distant future. It is hard to believe now that we have travelled so far, so fast. South Thames College and the University of Northampton both really got behind our belief that this degree in live sound is needed and long overdue and would be at its best and most relevant by partnering with Britannia Row Productions Training. I believe that this BSC Hons Degree Course in Live Sound Production will be the most relevant and focused training for anyone wanting to have the best of starts in the live sound industry."

BRPT has also announced the first two part-time courses for 2016, both starting in March.

The next part-time Live Sound Fundamentals Course will begin on Saturday 5 March and will run every Saturday for 16 weeks, with a break for Easter. The course teaches entry-level fundamentals for those wanting to work in Live Sound as semi-professionals, or in a local venue or small sound or AV company.

The next part time Live Sound Intermediate Course begins on Sunday 6 March 2016 and will run every Sunday for 16 weeks, with a break for Easter. This course is designed to take participants from entry through to professional levels.

Both courses are taught over 15 one-day sessions on consecutive weekends, with an assessment on the 16th week.

Each session can be taken as an individual stand-alone module for those wanting to brush-up on a particular subject, but to get the best from this course it is recommended that the whole course is taken.

For each course the full course fee is £2000 +VAT, or for single modules, £150 +VAT per session.

To book this course or for further information on the subjects of individual modules, please email info@training.britanniarow.com or call +44(0) 20 8893 4997.
