UK - Cadac Electronics plc introduced the latest addition to its range of 19" rack-mounted portfolio at the recent PLASA Show, in the shape of the F16 DC Master Interface Unit. The F16 joins the existing line-up of high quality Cadac rack-mounted products, including the M16 remote controlled microphone amplifier and the D16 digital mix matrix. Designed for direct interfacing with the D16 digital mix matrix, the F16 enables the DC Master fader control of internal virtual faders from a single or multiple D16 devices, controlled from any current Cadac Live Production Console.

Cadac has focused on providing the maximum control flexibility with the F16, enabling every fader within the D16 to be assigned to any of the DC Masters available on the console. This allows any number of D16 input or output fader levels to be controlled. In addition to its ability to interface directly with any Cadac console, the F16 can also provide D16 fader control from any third party console that provides access to its VCA control lines. It is also ideally suited for applications involving custom-built fader control units. The F16 reflects the hallmarks of Cadac's long-standing design principles, in terms of build quality, reliability and full compliance with existing EMC directives.

Also on show at PLASA is the M16 remote controlled microphone amplifier, which is rapidly gaining widespread acclaim as a top quality, highly versatile remote mic amp, capable of operating seamlessly with all types and marques of console, say Cadac. The M16 integrates 16 of Cadac's classic mic pre-amps into a 19" rack unit, providing three active splits per channel plus a MADI interface. The M16 builds on Cadac's 30+ years' history at the forefront of high-end professional audio development, and is a direct response to market demand for a high quality remote microphone amplifier for seamless interoperation with all marques of analogue and digital console. It is designed to address live, broadcast and recording requirements, integrating directly with the D16. Up to 16 M16 units can be controlled within a single system, and a remote control option is available, via the Cadac RM16 Remote Control Unit, or via Cadac's industry-leading SAM software.

Completing Cadac's current rack-mounted portfolio is the D16 digital mix matrix, a powerful and reliable digital engine that delivers the hallmark Cadac audio quality in a compact 19" rack unit. The D16 provides a fully featured 16x16 audio matrix, designed for operation either as a standalone audio processor (for smaller scale performances, fixed installations and high quality broadcast/recording applications), or as an expansion mixer for existing audio consoles. The D16 is equipped with 16 line-level analogue inputs and outputs, with each channel providing 4-band parametric EQ, high and low pass filters, compression and gating dynamics control, plus adjustable level routing to 16 output mixes (Pre EQ, Post EQ or Post Fader).

The system can be controlled locally via menu keys and an LCD interface located on the D16 front panel, or via Cadac's enhanced SAM software. With the D16, SAM provides an extra tier of control - enabling users to create a virtual set of modules to reflect a traditional console layout, with the software "views" in turn providing live updates for real-time control of the D16 and operation of SAM's more conventional cue-based automation facilities. Operating the D16 via SAM software also provides the added benefit of allowing the operator to utilise the powerful on-board MIDI automation features. This MIDI control system is integrated as standard within SAM and provides comprehensive control of MIDI parameters, extensive MIDI sequencing control, the firing of custom MIDI System Exclusive commands and MIDI mapping. It is also planned to control D16 parameters via an external MIDI controller, when used in conjunction with the SAM automation system, say Cadac.
