The Space Saver allows a clamp or spigot to be permanently fitted to a luminaire or projector
UK - Doughty Engineering's new Space Saver will take centre stage on stand C30 at ABTT this week, along with a new Pole Operated Yoke and Atom G Clamp.
The Space Saver, which has already proven to be a huge hit, is a piece of kit which allows a clamp or spigot to be permanently fitted to a luminaire or projector. "When our Space Saver made its initial debut in a demo video posted on Facebook a few months ago, we were amazed at the response," said Mark Chorley, design engineer at Doughty.
"It quickly received more than 35,000 views and the novelty hasn't worn off – since it officially launched earlier this year, it's been a major crowd pleaser at trade shows and we expect no less at ABTT. But we know that every trade show we attend gives us a different type of feedback – and we are excited to see what the theatre crowd at ABTT think of it."
The Pole Operated Yoke has been designed to stretch and shorten to fit any sized light. The yoke is fitted to a light with two cups which pan and tilt - and being pole operated, this enables the operator to make any adjustments from the ground, taking away the need to have ladders cluttering up the set and posing potential safety hazards. It is modular in design and as such can be made exactly to customer specification from existing stock - hence a quick turnaround between order and delivery.
The Atom G Clamp, which made its debut at PLASA London in 2016, will also feature on stand C30. The 'baby' of Doughty's popular Atom Clamp family, it has been designed in response to a customer request for a clamp that is suitable for small architectural luminaires.
Mark explained: "As with a considerable number of our products, this item started life as a one-off for a well known lighting company which was looking for a neat and unobtrusive way to hang one of its architectural luminaires. We realised that other companies would also benefit from the design of this clamp, which fits 10-25mm diameter truss and has an 8mm diameter fixing hole."
Julian Chiverton, sales director at Doughty, added: "ABTT is such a high profile show for us – no other show puts us in front of such a specific theatre audience – and the comments we get from our customers in this arena is vital to our research and development of new products. We work across theatre, broadcast and in architectural spaces and we know there is no 'one size fits all' solution, so we really do value industry specific feedback."
