UK - The Elgiva Theatre in Chesham has just had a complete new sound system installed - replacing the previous 20-year old system - designed and installed by Kelco (UK) Ltd. The system comprises loudspeakers selected from the EM Acoustics EMS Series - products designed for a wide variety of applications, but which have found their way into several theatrical productions already. This system marks the first permanent installation of EM Acoustics products into a theatre in the UK.

Due to the wide variety of productions that the theatre stages - from speeches and traditional plays to small concerts - Kelco's technical director David Kelland specified six EMS-121 (12" x 1") full-range enclosures, arranged in pairs at left-centre-right positions, with EMS-81 enclosures as downfills and EMS-215 subwoofers for low end support. The entire system is powered by MC2 T-Series amplification, and due to the highly flexible nature of the system a Biamp Audia Nexia system processor was installed to be able to easily recall a large number of presets for different applications.

Kelland explains: "We provided several systems to the theatre for evaluation, from which EM Acoustics was selected as the system of choice. We then worked with the Elgiva's technical manager, Darren Jackson, to ensure that we could meet every application required by the theatre whilst maintaining even coverage and fast reconfiguration. As always, we involved the technical staff at the theatre in all aspects of the system design right from the start and this made the installation easier and faster, whilst of course ironing all the inevitable bugs out! The whole installation was completed during three days of 'dark time' and I am pleased that the client is delighted with the results."
