The ice rink at Warwick Castle.
UK - Star Vertech is supplying 7,500sq.m of its proprietary Vertech platforms to support temporary ice-rinks through the 2004/2005 festive season. Star Vertech (part of the Star Events Group) is more commonly known for supplying staging at large concerts and festivals; but as the trend to install temporary ice-rinks has grown over recent years, the unique Vertech platforms have been called in to use to create strong, level bases for ice rinks.

Star Vertech crews have installed the large platforms in Newcastle, Dublin, Glasgow and Warwick, with another going into Leeds Millennium Square in January. Phil Addyman has managed the projects, commenting: "The Vertech staging system has proven popular for ice-rinks as it provides a very stable base and as it is designed to be installed quickly it saves time and money over other systems."

In addition to supporting the weight of the ice-rink, the Vertech platforms have also had marquees erected on them to create refreshment facilities and to allow skaters somewhere to don their skates.

The installation in the central courtyard of the picturesque Warwick Castle is a great example of how temporary ice-rinks provide an effective draw to attract the public. In addition to the ice skating Warwick Castle was transformed into a Medieval 'Frost Fair' with snow, music, period entertainers and Christmas trees to create a truly magical festive experience.
