USA - A long overdue renovation of the lobby and atrium at the Hilton Anatole Hotel in Dallas, Texas, began shortly after it was announced that the Hilton Anatole would be the NFL headquarters hotel for the XLV Super Bowl.

R2W's Dallas office was tapped to handle the design and installation of a new sound system for the atrium as well as other system required by the renovation.

The renovation consisted of gutting the existing lobby of the 1,606 room hotel and creating a new 11 story high atrium that features a prominent water element and new Media Grill + Bar. The 11,000 square foot space required an unobtrusive, distributed sound system for music playback in the area.

The hotel design team placed 25 custom light fixtures throughout the area and allocated space within the fixtures for loudspeakers.

"Our job was to come up with a system that would provide the audio qua

Denmark - Set amid the pastoral greenery of Denmark's Birker°d village, Mantziusgården Culture Centre has recently upgraded its venerable Meyer Sound UPA-1 loudspeakers of 21 years to a JM-1P arrayable loudspeaker system. Stouenborg of Kastrup, Denmark handled the sound system design and installation.

Introduced three decades apart from each other, Mantziusgården's new self-powered JM-1P system and its previous conventionally powered UPA-1 loudspeakers are both point source systems from Meyer Sound. "As a company, Meyer Sound is built on an appreciation for excellent sound," says Thomas Normann L°ve, the venue's resident sound engineer. "This commitment is clearly heard in the exceptional performance of our Meyer Sound equipment."

UK - Mike Glover of Essex Sound & Light (ESL) has spent 2011 engaged in installation projects as far afield as Delhi and Spain - but he saved one of his best creations for a nightclub right on his own Southend doorstep.

Chameleon has been a landmark venue since it first opened as Mr. B's Discotheque in the mid-80s. The venue subsequently underwent many iterations and corporate ownership changes before falling into demise following the collapse of CanDu Entertainment three and a half years ago.

As a result, enterprising local entrepreneur Dick De Vigne (whose eponymous 500-capacity Dick De Vigne's nightclub is the lynch-pin of the burgeoning Warrior Square scene nearby), snapped up Chameleon on Lucy Road from the receivers.

Not only does Lucy Road provide the traditional nightlife heartbeat of Southend but De Vigne also owned this place previously (first as Discotheque Buzz a

Design consultants and AV contractors Shitij Harnwal and Narinder Pal Singh from Audio Jewellers worked closely with architect Luvpreet Singh to produce an excellent sounding venue without compromising the aesthetics of the sports bar.

Working with a strict budget and keeping in mind the extensive requirements of an integrated system, Audio Jewellers specified a complete solution that delivers on all counts, turning to Tannoy's new VX Series in one of the first installations of its kind in the region.

The system comprised two Tannoy VX 12 high performance loudspeakers, eight Di5 ultra compact loudspeakers, and six Tannoy Mercury compact stand-mount loudspeakers. These were supplemented by four VS Series sub

UK - Audio Light Systems has completed the AV installation in the Moffat Auditorium at the National Museum of Scotland as part of the £46m epic transformation.

The auditorium which was originally a 1950's screening cinema was fully refurbished & modernised. It now houses an 8m screen, Christie Digital HD10K-M high definition projector which is fed via a Analog Way SME100 seamless switcher. An Allen & Heath iDR system processes and controls the audio from Tascam & Bluray systems.

The Extron & Crestron systems provide easy end user control with an 8.4" WIFI Touch screen.

Poland - Laying between Gdansk to the south and Gdynia in the north lays the lesser known resort city of Sopot on the Baltic coast. Here the new Ergo Arena and Entertainment Hall (EAEH) has taken the seemingly perfected sports arena design up another notch.

"In the way of other such buildings the Ergo Arena can accommodate almost all the indoor sports to world championship standard," said Piotr Jankiewicz from Konsbud-Audio who installed the arena's sound system, "hockey, volley and basketball, even combat sports; and from the outset the architectural design has fully addressed the needs of touring shows, you can fly the biggest productions here."

The challenges of the audio system have also been anticipated by the architects (KIPP Projekt of Poland),as Jankiewicz explained. "This is a maximum 15,000 capacity arena for standing events, so it's in the '

UK - Following the announcement yesterday (20 December) of Westminster School's purchase of Lawrence Hall from the Royal Horticultural Society, organisers of the ABTT 2012 Theatre Show moved swiftly to announce the event will be transferring to a new venue.

The Show's director, Roger Fox, spoke to assure both exhibitors and visitors that the 2012 Show would be going ahead, explaining: "This announcement has come as a surprise to us today and at a time when planning for the 2012 Show was well advanced. Discussions to secure an alternative venue are already in progress, which we see as also an opportunity to offer improved facilities for our exhibitors and visitors."

At present it is unsure if the Show's previously published June 2012 dates will be available at an alternative venue, but all effort is being made to avoid changes to the timing of this important annual ev

Angola - Situated in the southern suburbs of this prosperous West African sea port, midway between the city's main railway station and its home team football stadium, the Cathedral of Benguela , Angola, Sé Catedral de Nossa Senhora de Fátima to give its proper name, is an imposing piece of modernist architecture. Unadorned, the massive concrete structure has a pleasing symmetry, the walls sloping inward to form a towering triangular building; as well as a focus for Christianity it is also a cool haven from the oppressive heat for its burgeoning congregation.

Benguela Cathedral has a booming reverberant interior, "When I first made a detailed EASE model of the cathedral the calculated reverb' time was five seconds at 100 Hz," said Burton Reid from Event Technology (ET). "The reality was no different." Reid's company had been charged with finding an app

USA - Three Jands Vista T2 consoles, each running the next generation Vista v2 software, are controlling lighting and media at White's Chapel United Methodist Church (UMC) in Dallas, Texas, USA.

In the run up to Christmas a spectacular show, Celebrate The Light, is being projected onto the front of the impressive 250 ft wide by 150 ft high façade of the church building. Drawing crowds of up to 5,000, and running six times a night, a Vista T2 is in control of this popular show.

Tim Georgeff, the Church's Creative Director, had been dreaming about producing a Christmas projection presentation on the building for some time. With the help of Steve Alford of leading technical production company Alford Media - who supplied three Barco 20K FLM projectors and a pair of Green Hippo Grasshopper media servers - as well as local graphic designer David Koss this became a reality.

USA - The restoration of Omaha's Greater Beth-El Temple is complete after a June 2008 arson attack that nearly destroyed the Apostolic Christian church, popular among Omaha's African-American community. The congregation was forced to relocate while the temple underwent a complete renovation. Left virtually an empty shell after the fire, the building required new floors, a ceiling, a stage, seating, and numerous other necessities including a sound system.

Greater Beth-El services include a full musical ensemble playing contemporary Christian and gospel music. Theatrical performances and concerts are also regular events at the temple. According to John Manhart of Direct Pro Audio LLC, the contractor who designed and installed Greater Beth-El's new audio system, low profile looks combined with large sound capability were paramount in selecting the new system.

USA - The Cutler Majestic Theatre at Emerson College is a historic landmark in the heart of Boston's theatre district. Built as an opera house in 1903, this intimate venue serves student, community and professional theatrical productions.

In 1999, AV systems integrator Boston Light & Sound was brought in to design and install a PA system utilising a pair of EAW MQ1364 MF/HF Array Loudspeakers on either side of an MQTD412 LF Array Loudspeaker with a single MQ1394 below and JF290zs for L&R Orchestra-fill. At the time, with the theatre's balcony closed, the system provided complete coverage of the venue's main-floor and mezzanine seating areas. In 2003, when the balcony was reopened after extensive reconstruction as part of the theatre's 100th anniversary, additional EAW AS690e fill speakers were added for balcony coverage, based on a consultant's design.

This is the first of six similar projects Black Light is involved with.

"Black Light did an extremely professional installation," said Derek Johnston, head of music and drama at the school. "The entire system looks incredibly neat and tidy and operates in an extremely effective and flexible manner."

To achieve the required outcome for the end users at the school, Black Light developed a detailed project proposal that completely met the requirements of the Local Authority. The company's installation team then carried out the on-time and on-budget full package installation. The new facilities allow the school to make high

Poland - Jagiellonian University in Kracow is Poland's largest university and one of the oldest and most celebrated academic institutions in the world. Founded in 1364 as Studium Generale, the university - named after Poland's Jagiellonian dynasty - numbers Nicolaus Copernicus and Pope John Paul II among its alumni. Since August, a number of new sound systems have been installed in a variety of the university's lecture and concert halls.

The Kracow and Wroclaw-based branches of Tommex Zebrowscy Sp. J. were responsible for the design of the sound systems. In the case of the Kotlownia lecture and exhibition hall, the firm's specialists attached particular importance to finding a loudspeaker system capable of delivering both a very high level of intelligibility and precise control. They opted for a solution featuring equipment from Dynacord.

UK - 2012 has bought a fresh new look and feel to the cinemas at the Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA), the home of the British avant-garde. Between Christmas and New Year, theatre consultancy Charcoalblue ensured that the cinemas were completely transformed and ready to host the ninth London Short Film Festival.

The project brief for Charcoalblue was to design, schedule and manage a comprehensive refurbishment of the main ICA cinemas. The challenge was to ensure it could happen in the short break between Christmas and New Year.

Following the design and specification by Charcoalblue of all of the necessary elements, 285 seats were stripped out of the cinemas and removed from site on 26 December; step-lights, carpets and wall coverings were removed on the 27th; on the 28th and 29th the floor structure was modified to increase the provision of fully accessible audience spaces

UK - London's Harold Pinter Theatre, formerly the Comedy Theatre, had retained its original wooden grid and manual hemp flying system for over a century. The intervening years had taken their toll on the grid, with heavy steel-framed sets and moving lights causing major operational challenges for the theatre staff.

In 2009, the theatre's owners, Ambassador Theatre Group, commissioned Theatreplan consultants to prepare a detailed report on the existing flying system, and to suggest a new support arrangement to accommodate modern scenery loads. The task was complicated because of the presence of six large early wooden drum and shaft mechanisms, which had been listed; English Heritage and Westminster City Council wanted them to be retained.

Theatreplan produced a comprehensive 'heritage' report, a service in which Theatreplan's partner Roger Fox specialises. He said: "We stu

UK - When the Royal Opera House installed Unison architectural lighting control for the stage and side stage areas as part of the original 1999 refurbishment, it was recognised that lighting control systems will be eventually replaced as new and better products are developed. When senior lighting manager Nick Ware and his team members decided it was due for replacement, they looked first at the updated version of the product: Unison Paradigm.

Lighting systems Manager Paul Hornsby explains, "The system has remained on 24 hours a day, seven days a week for the last 11 years, and has served us well. But it was time to consider replacing it.

"We talked to colleagues at other venues across the country, doing extensive research into the systems they were using and discussing whether a different system might serve our needs better, but always came back to ETC's updated arch

Czech Republic - The 130-year old Mahen Theatre in the Czech Republic has recently installed a full Yamaha DME-based Ethersound network, complementing its existing Yamaha digital mixing consoles.

One of the cultural hubs of Brno, the second largest city in the Czech Republic, on its opening in 1882 the Mahen Theatre was one of the first public buildings in the world to be lit entirely by electric light. This was in response to a spate of fires in gas-lit theatres across Europe.

Installed by Prague-based Audiopro, the latest upgrade adds an Ethersound audio network which features four Yamaha SB168-ES stage boxes, four DME4io-ES digital mixing engines and an NAI48-ES Ethersound interface to work with the theatre's twoM7CL-48 and 01V96V2 digital mixing consoles.

"The theatre's main auditorium uses the two M7CL consoles and a second, smaller stage which uses the 01V96V2,&qu

UK - TV chef Gordon Ramsay's latest venture is Bread Street Kitchen in London's East End. Drawing inspiration from its industrial surroundings, the 250-seat gourmet temple is aesthetically reminiscent of a warehouse.

Since Gordon Ramsay conceives of a meal as a feast for all the senses, he attaches serious importance to the sound distribution systems installed in his restaurants. Responsibility for the system design and installation in the Bread Street Kitchen was entrusted to CGA Integration, specialists in sound, light and video integration.

"Russell Sage's restaurant design posed a real challenge," says CGA's Chris Gunton. "Very high ceilings and a monopoly of hard surfaces are treacherous - especially when the restaurant is full. The sound system we installed needed to focus on eliminating the reverberation characteristic of large open venues such as warehou

UK - The design team at London lighting rental company Colour Sound Experiment (CSE) have installed their new proprietary BT36 LED screen as well as a new Anolis lighting scheme for the latest ice sculpture installation at the Icebar By Icehotel London in Heddon Street, London W1.

The lighting is project managed by CSE's Steve Marley. The company has worked with the venue for three years and the lighting spec and site fit-up is overseen for CSE by Jon Rickets, who works closely with the Icebar By Icehotel London team, including general manager Matthieu Bourgogne.

The elaborate and intricate ice sculptures - created by designers from the original Icehotel in Sweden - are changed annually along with the lighting, which is an integral part of the whole vibe of the space.

During the second year lighting the ice, CSE added 21 Anolis ArcLine RGB 36 battens to up-light the main ice
