Technical Manager Andrew Smith (L) and Media Technician Darren Hope.
UK - Lighting and sound sales and installation specialists Lighting Logic has designed, specified, supplied and installed a complete lighting system for the television studio at The Brit School in Croydon, Surrey.

Lighting Logic's Mick Cocker worked closely with Brit School technical manager Andrew Smith to design and specify exactly the right equipment for the studio. The space is used constantly by students from the School's Media Department for project creation, and also by students and staff from other courses. Cocker has worked on two previous Brit School installation projects.

A major feature of the installation is a flexible Manfrotto IFF Top Rail advanced studio suspension grid system. This tracking mechanism is movable, allowing all overhead lighting fixtures to be moved around the studio quickly and easily without using cumbersome and complex access gear. Effectively, the IFF allows the moving of the grid to the saturation point or area of the studio where it is needed. It was the obvious choice for a heavily used multi-purpose space like this confirms Mick Cocker. Lighting Logic also supplied a quantity of ARRI Junior 1KW fresnels and Photon Beard 110W dimmable fluorescents.

For control, they specified the broadcast standard LSC iPRO dimmers, an LSC DMX distribution system, and an LSC maXim 24 channel lighting console. The project also entailed supply of a Doughty tab track and a full set of drapes, curtains, and other assorted soft goods. The main technical brief for the installation was that it should be highly versatile and easy to use by a wide array of people, including those without specialist lighting knowledge.

Andrew Smith commented: "There's been a huge increase in the quality of the technical infrastructure thanks to this new lighting installation and a complete upgrade of all the broadcast equipment to digital. Overall, we can now produce superior quality footage in the studio, which is a great benefit to everyone".

Cocker stated: "It's been brilliant to be working at The Brit School again. Their energy and enthusiasm is hugely inspiring, and we're pleased to be associated with one of the UK's foremost training environments for future industry professionals."
