France - Last summer, DJ Florian Picasso wowed his fans with a livestream set, accompanied by hypnotic projection mapping and pyrotechnics, from his great-grandfather Pablo’s former residence in Cannes.
The light show at Villa La Californie brought the exterior of the building to life and delighted not only his neighbours on the Riviera but also an audience of millions worldwide. In an equally compelling follow-up, Florian recently staged another stream from inside the villa, this time in conjunction with artist Cyril Kongo, for the benefit of Maria Bravo and Eva Longoria’s Global Gift Foundation. The show sought to raise awareness and funds for Vietnamese orphanages.

UK - Roger Barrett, technical director at Star Live contacted SES Entertainment Services as he was in need of a large amount of quality power distribution units and cabling for three large semi-permanent contracts that they had been awarded. Owing to the technical requirements and location of some of the distro, it all had to be designed around a fixed brief.
The first stage of the project was to have design drawings approved by Star, to ensure that each of the units we would provide fitted exactly to each location where they would be installed. As some of the units were to be housed under the main structure, they had to be exact.
Once the drawings were approved, SES commenced manufacture of over 50 bespoke units and over 100 supply cables which were shipped shortly after order was confirmed so that they could be run into position awaiting the delivery of the distribut

USA - For DJ, producer and remixer Nicky Romero, New Year’s Eve would normally involve travelling to an exotic destination to perform in a club in front of thousands of fans. To mark the end of 2020 and the beginning of 2021, that couldn’t happen. Instead, he stayed local and recorded a performance that was broadcast to fans around the world from his website to help them to celebrate the New Year at home.
The lighting rig for the shoot comprised predominately ADJ fixtures, including Vizi Beam RXONE and Vizi CMY300 moving heads as well as Pixie Strip LED battens.
Nicky Romero’s NYE broadcast also featured guest DJs DØBER and Timmo Hendriks who performed a back-to-back set. USA - Lewis & Clark Library located in Helena, Montana, has commissioned a new public address paging system, opting for a Martin Audio solution - designed and installed by locally based AV integration company, Montana Pro Audio.
They were awarded the contract after the library, which was established in 1868 before Montana became a territory, received a higher-than-expected bid for the desired AV integration design. After receiving a request for proposal, and undertaking a number of revisions and redesigns, Montana Pro Audio specified the solution from Martin Audio’s Adorn catalogue.

Germany - In late 2020, the city of Munich wanted to create a projection mapping show on New Year's Eve, but with coronavirus restrictions, a new solution was created. A semi-permanent installation would enable as many people as possible to see the attraction whilst maintaining a suitable social distance. The chosen location was The Kunstareal which is a museum quarter in the city centre of Munich, where numerous cultural institutions, universities and museums are located.

UAE - KISS said goodbye to 2020 in spectacular fashion = with a live New Year’s Eve pay-per-view concert from Atlantis the Palm in Dubai.
The 22-song set from the band’s End of the Road show was performed on a 250ft stage with the live audience at the Atlantis resort watching from their balconies and fans worldwide live streaming the concert on FITE. A large complement of Claypaky Mythos 2 and Scenius Unico fixtures from technical supplier PRG helped to illuminate the expansive venue.
The concert was designed by Sean Hackett (aka Motley) from the KISS production team. PRG was tasked with providing the A and B rigs to fill the stage and create the architectural lighting for Atlantis The Palm that highlighted building features and set the scene for the mammoth show to come.

Germany - London-based Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts entered its production season with support from GLP’s UK office and some inventive programming of the company’s bespoke theatre fixtures from one GLP enthusiast and freelance designer, Adam Kingnow.
When the academy relocated to its new building in Peckham from its former Wood Green base, where King had graduated with a BA (Hons) degree in Technical Theatre specialising in Lighting, it had the benefit of a new reconfigurable theatre. This featured a purpose designed lighting grid on which the LDs could hang and focus their lighting, including a large number of GLP fixtures, to achieve maximum creativity.

China - The Shanghai Stock Exchange – the world's fourth largest stock market – is located within a financial centre in Shanghai that also includes the China Financial Futures Exchange and China Securities Depository and Clearing Co. And at the heart of a professional audio upgrade within the Shanghai Stock Exchange Auditorium are premium loudspeaker solutions from Renkus-Heinz.
The auditorium is an architecturally impressive space featuring a number of design challenges. USA - Al Gurdon used 65 Chauvet Professional Nexus Aw 7x7 panels supplied by PRG to bridge two distinct facets of The Weeknd’s Pepsi Super Bowl LV Halftime Show at the Raymond James Stadium in Tampa.
Arranged in a tower-like configuration that was revealed when the stands holding The Weeknd’s supporting cast parted into equal sections on either side of them, the Nexus units created a column of intense warm white light that silhouetted the star as he made his first appearance.
In addition to creating a dramatic entrance, the brilliant display of light acted as a bridge between the performance stage that was setup on the North End concourse of the stadium and the backstage hall of mirrors dubbed ‘The Infinity Room’ by the show’s creative team.

Vietnam - A new nightly lake show at the picturesque Dam Sen Park in Ho Chi Min City is turning heads with spectacular visuals and water effects, including large-scale water screen projections using Christie HS Series 1DLP laser projectors.
Jointly presented by Dam Sen Theme Park and Christie’s partner Alta Media, the night-time spectacular features an advanced lighting system comprising lasers, interactive water screen projections and a dancing fountain spanning 100 metres in length. Visitors can enjoy an exciting combination of twirling water jets, complemented by a fire performance and an aerial firework display over an energetic soundtrack.
This is the first interactive water screen project in Vietnam that showcases an innovative “photo booth” function where selfie photos taken on-site can be displayed on the water screen during the performance.

UK - Anolis Divine 160 LED lighting fixtures are providing mood and house lighting for two of London’s leading multifunctional venues, Magazine London in Greenwich and Exhibition London in White City, both initiated and operated by Broadwick Live and Venue Lab.
The Anolis fixtures were specified by consultant and technical production director Simon Jones of SJ-TPM, who co-ordinated the technical design, specification, procurement, installation, and commissioning of production equipment for the two high profile venues.

Germany - Die Glocke in Bremen is a well-respected concert venue. The meticulously detailed space inside the Walter Görig-designed building reflects sound with such clarity and purity that leading artists have sought it out for their performances. Herbert von Karajan singled out Die Glocke as one of the three finest concert halls in all of Europe.
Given this reputation, Christoph Brunkow, project supervisor at Glocke and his team had clear goals in mind when they were upgrading the facility’s lighting system. In addition to seeking fixtures that produced bright even fields of light, they were looking for ones that were quiet and could be installed with minimal disruption to the building’s interior.

Russia - Rock band Kino celebrated its reunion with an online concert, which wowed the Russian rock community and teased Kino’s major stadium tour planned for this spring. The online performance was the first show to use Claypaky’s new Tambora Batten fixtures, which were selected by lighting designer Marina Larikova.
The online concert reunited members of the band who had not appeared together since the death of Kino’s lead singer, Victor Tsoi, in 1990. The performance featured two bass players who had played at different times with the original band, Kino’s original guitarist, a synthesizer player and a rhythm guitarist. Victor Tsoi’s presence was felt in the show when his multitrack recordings were digitised, enhanced and incorporated into the concert. Tsoi’s son Alexander was one of the show producers.

UK - Flipside Soundsystem has recently assisted Ashington Parish Church with a new audio installation, helping the parish modernise the building by delivering a balanced sound for energetic performances, streaming sessions and small communal services. The systems integrator installed a variety of speakers and amplifiers from TW AUDiO and Powersoft to cover the space.
Renovated 15 years ago with additions such as a new kitchen and underfloor heating, the church has been stripped back of some of the décor and furnishings from the stage area, allowing a low reverberation for a somewhat traditional space. “It’s a friendly layout for a church,” says Flipside managing director, James Cooper. “It’s not a particularly reverberant room and with the audience capacity being around 300, you don’t need anything massive to fill up that type of space.”

USA - Over 1,700 miles separate Image Productions Services from Ryman Auditorium, but that didn’t matter much on Saturday 23 January when Annie Brobst and The Jake Ash Band took the stage at the improvised livestream studio in the company’s warehouse in Shrewsbury, MA.
Brobst, the New England Country Music Awards Artist of the Year, and Ash’s band, which was formed by four firefighters from nearby Brockton, projected a down-home vibe that would have fit right in on Nashville’s Second Avenue.

UK - Reflex, Audio Visual Material (AVM), and Christie have collaborated on one of the largest rear projection systems in Europe at Queen Mary University of London. Two Christie Crimson HD laser projectors have been installed for the 12m by 6m (39 ft x 19.5 ft) screen in The Great Hall, an 800-seat space in a 1930s art deco building.
Raj Dattani, senior technical design engineer at Reflex led the installation and chose to work again with AVM and Christie teams seven years after the initial installation. “We have gone from two 10K projectors, four lamps, and regular maintenance checks to triple the brightness and no maintenance with laser,” he said. Additionally, a switch to AV over IP distribution means just one cable to the projector, giving users and clients huge flexibility.

Japan - The Beatles, Led Zeppelin and Queen have graced its stage; artists from Bob Dylan to Blur have released albums recorded within its walls. Now, live music has returned to the Nippon Budokan, as rising J-pop stars Little Glee Monster recently kicked off their Japanese tour at the Tokyo venue. An Adamson Systems Engineering system supported the ground-breaking event for the group, the start of their largest arena tour to date.
The Budokan was built in 1964 as a martial arts competition space for the Tokyo Summer Olympics. The venue’s octagonal shape can make sound reinforcement difficult, but system engineer Ryuichi Kawakami selected Adamson speakers for their clarity and coverage.

Italy - The Cinema Teatro Lolek stands in Italy’s first oratory with NZEB (nearly zero-energy building) classification and features a modern structure, technology and systems are concerned.
The complex, located in Rezzato, on the outskirts of Brescia, occupies an area of 2,700 m2 above ground and includes a series of buildings at the service of the local community and neighbouring areas.
At the centre of the structure, there is a multi-function hall, the project’s key element: a large oval-shaped space designed for use as a theatre and cinema, but also to host exhibitions, events, conferences and much more.
A feature of this hall is the fact that, thanks to a special shutter system, it opens outwards, enabling to hold events with the stage used in the opposite direction, looking out over the rear outdoor audience area.
