In addition to filming live at festivals and in clubs, BE-AT.TV also brings big-name DJs into their studios for exclusive performances, and live, loud playback of the seamlessly through-mixed sets is a must to ensure the mood stays right for the DJs to give their best performances. After considering various powered monitors, BE-AT.TV chose KW122 active, full-range loudspeakers with KW181 active sub-woofers for their live in-studio playback.
There are now six pairs of the speakers in use across the three BE-AT.TV studios, with two pairs used in each location and the Berlin pairs in waiting ready to be used when the studio comes on stream. The speakers were supplied by Shure Distribution, the QSC distributor in the UK.
Haifleigh Shivers, business development manager for BE-AT.TV in London, explains the company's choice: "You can't just mix a DJ set while listening on headphones - these guys are artists and they need to feel the music is happening in the room, sub-bass and all. We were using QSC K Series Actives in the studios when I started here in London and they sounded great, so we looked at other QSC speakers when we wanted to improve our setup. At the same time, we wanted to ensure that the sound was consistent in each of our studios. The KW Series are great and we have new artists playing amazing sets through them every week!"
