UK - SLX has announced it is providing lighting, control and power to the theatre adaption of Virginia Woolf's novel, Orlando.
London's Garrick Theatre welcomed the debut of this captivating play in November 2022, with its star-studded cast, visuals and directorship stealing the show according to critics' reviews.
"As specialists in supplying long-term kit to theatres all over the UK, our team is driven to overcome whatever challenges transpire to help ensure every performance is a success," says Ruari Cormack, business development manager at SLX. "It's been an honour to support Howard and his team design this rig, bringing the play's journey through four centuries of gender-defining history to life in the historic Garrick Theatre."
Working with lighting designer Howard Hudson for the first time, SLX’s Ruari Cormack supported the design team in developing a rig that would immerse audiences and help tell the story in the most captivating way possible. Through time spent experimenting with new technologies, it was decided that SLX’s recent investment in purchasing Aryton's latest Diablo and Eurus LED profile luminaires would take centre stage thanks to their versatility, efficiency and performance.
To take this even further, this fixture experimentation resulted in SLX’s own design LED floodlights being included in the rig, which would complete Hudson's vision to produce a blinding white light as the show concluded.
“By combining our 40 years of technical experience, with our drive to supply equipment that would equip theatres with new possibilities, our team’s ability to deliver exceptional results for this Orlando was evident. Even though SLX had not yet worked with this team of creatives, our experience working with a range of theatres on and off tour is what set us apart and I’m proud to be a part of it,” adds Cormack.
