UK - Just Sound in the UK has supplied a PA rig based around an iLive digital mixing system to the Royal Military School of Music, which will operate and loan the equipment to the British Army's bands performing around the globe. The system was designed to be compact for air portability on a variety of military aircraft, with minimum set-up time.

The rig will be used in dangerous hot spots, such as Helmand province in Afghanistan where Army bands will play to military audiences in operating bases all over the area. The system can provide sound reinforcement for up to 600 spectators and is capable of supporting a full popular music band, including drums, bass, two guitars, keys, a horn section, vocals and backing vocals.

"iLive was chosen because it has a high channel count and large amounts of processing in an extremely compact footprint, which is lightweight and easy to

Finland - In Turku, Finland, the flexible Logomo Hall assumes whatever size or shape is suited for the event of the evening. On one night it can provide a compact 1,100-seat space with a nearly square audience area, ideal for a chamber orchestra or jazz ensemble. Within a few hours, it can be transformed into an elongated rectangle accommodating 3,500 for a rock concert.

And with the push of a button, its permanently installed Meyer Sound Constellation acoustic system instantly optimizes acoustical response for both the current room configuration and the event at hand, whether a concert, conference, play, or opera.

"Constellation's effect is extremely realistic," observes Janne Auvinen, events and venue director for Logomo. "People don't actually notice the system because it is just so natural."

Germany - Innovason has reported a highly successful PL+S show 2012. The focus this year was the revelation of the latest box of tricks that has been integrated into Innovason's flagship Eclipse GT digital console: named for the 'all-gifted' figure of Greek mythology, Pandora is a new way of panning that provides audibly better results across the listening field than traditional stereo panning, says the company.

Tonmeister and renowned classical sound engineer, Carsten Kummel, explains, "The problem with traditional panning is the loss of signal on one side when you pan to the other. To resolve this, some people choose to mix in mono, but this isn't really a viable solution, especially for complex shows where you are dealing with anything from 80 to 100 channels. So, I started playing around with delay and seeing if I could achieve better results that way.

"I went aw

UAE - The 10th Skywards Dubai International Jazz Festival moved to a spacious new site this year. From February 16-24, 2012 at Dubai Festival City, a robust Meyer Sound Milo-based line array loudspeaker system covered the site with exemplary sound - even after being pummeled by a ferocious sandstorm. Total attendance topped 46,000 for the nine evenings of performances.

"On the second day of the festival we had one of the worst sandstorms in recent years," recalls Karl Da Costa, technical manager of Dubai-based Artes Middle East LLC, which has equipped the festival with Meyer Sound systems for the past five years. "A couple of video screens came down, and dust was getting into everything. Yet we managed to get through the afternoon sound check. Fortunately, the winds died down by evening, and all the loudspeakers performed flawlessly for the show."

Ukraine - Launched in 1997, STB is one of Ukraine's most popular television stations. Broadcasting a mixture of original content and Ukrainian versions of popular Western programmes, the station continues to expand. Recently it invested in a DiGiCo SD9.

Currently ranked first in the country by audience share, STB needed a digital console that would withstand the rigours of moving around the country to regional heats of the Ukrainian version of Masterchef.

"The console had to be a reliable workhorse, able to work while constantly travelling - sometimes in hostile environments. As far as we were concerned, DiGiCo has the best protection against dust and shock resistance. There was also an urgent need for a MADI interface and we wanted the possibility of using fibre optic," says STB sound engineer for projects such as The X Factor and Ukraine's Got Tale

UK - JoeCo and UK distributor MSL Professional head to PLASA Focus for the first time showing the latest additions to the BlackBox range of 1U multi-channel recorders and players, including the new BBR64-Dante Recorder which was unveiled at the recent Prolight + Sound in Frankfurt.

The recorder connects to any Dante-enabled network device from a range of console and converter manufacturers. In addition to recording 64 channels at standard sample rates, it can also record eight channels of analogue alongside 56 chan

UK - Carving out an impressive reputation through the contribution of its graduates inter alia to the games and visual effects industries, Bournemouth University on the UK's south coast expanded its Talbot Campus last year to include new lecture and seminar facilities. Kimmeridge House, as the new building is known, accommodates 300 and 70 seater lecture halls as well as a number of seminar rooms belonging to the university's excellent Media and Design School.

To meet the challenging requirement profile and acoustics above all of the main lecture hall, specialists from GV Multimedia were called in to design and install the audio and video systems, with the company's Exeter branch performing the installation. It was a tricky task, of the kind that end either in plaudits or brickbats, with the interior architecture of the hall posing the first problem. "The main lecture hall

France - Approaching 100 years of hosting football matches, Le Stade de la Route de Lorient in Rennes made the decision to install a robust complement of 64 Meyer Sound loudspeakers -making it the first major stadium in France to boast a complete Meyer Sound self-powered audio reinforcement system.

With seating for more than 31,000, the stadium is the home of the top tier league Stade Rennais Football Club. The structure has undergone several renovations since it was inaugurated in 1912, with the last major reconstruction in 2004. Unfortunately, the sound system installed at that time proved difficult to maintain and inadequate for the demands of today's high-energy incidental music and video soundtracks.

Spectaculaires, a diversified event technology company based near Rennes, was called in to consult on a system that would improve coverage and reliability, supply power and b
