UK - The 'Topsy Turvy' theme of an elaborate Christmas party was taken to new dimensions by video production specialists Central Presentations Ltd. (CPL) who supplied a projection system and control for the event staged at Motion nightclub in Bristol.

CPL's project managers Nick Diacre and Jimmy Smith worked closely with producer Ansy Oswin from Bright Productions and his team to help realize the zany and original upside-down production design concept which had a great impact on guests.

Motion was divided into three areas based on a house for the occasion. The first one was outside representing the 'garden'; the main area of the club was an inverted 'front room' with everything hanging from the ceiling ... with the buffet laid out in the third area which was the 'kitchen'.

UK - LSiOnline has learned of the death of Gavin Aldridge, an experienced AV systems designer and installer, and owner of Kent-based Fulford Sound & Communications Services. Gavin, who was 36, was killed at Bethersden Business Centre near Ashford at the start of December, when the 4x4 vehicle he was working beneath fell on top of him. He was declared dead at the scene.

Belgium / China - XL Video has announced an investment of more than 15m US dollars in a range of new LED products and accessories to support its plans for growth in 2014.

The LED investment has been made with a range of suppliers including Shenzhen-based Unilumin Group Co and its subsidiary Radiant Opto-Elec Technology Co Ltd to purchase a series of LED products based on the latest technologies. In total more than 1200 m2 of LED products for the XL Video rental business will become available from February onwards.

USA - Barco teamed up with Velocity Productions to create a series of dynamic video walls to engage a new generation of patrons with immersive spiritual programming.

Bringing a 197-year-old religious institution into modern times to attract young, urban followers is no small task. But, American Bible Society's high-profile location at 61st/Broadway in New York City offered a prime opportunity to create an inviting, visually thought-provoking "third space" to inspire local youth with the Bible.

Barco and Velocity outfitted the newly redesigned atrium and gathering spots with 22 OverView NSL-4621 LCD displays in various configurations, presenting spiritual imagery and videos, live media streaming, signage for upcoming events and services, and more.

UK - XL Video supplied wide-screen projection including some of its new Panasonic 20K projectors, Catalyst control, a four camera / PPU package and crew for the very successful Wet Wet Wet UK arena tour in December - their first full tour since 2007.

The Band's manager Dougie Souness and production manager Pete Bell approached XL to assist with realising a production design created in conjunction with lighting designer Martin Nicholas and consultant Miguel Ribeiro, who worked closely with the band on the creation of content.

At the heart of this was an 80ft wide rear projection screen gently curved - cyclorama style - by two end-wings angled at around 15 degrees.

They wanted the video system to be as flexible as possible, and to be able to switch playback content and IMAG camera footage between the main screen and two side screens.

The event was watched by over 200,000 people along the banks of the Thames and live at home by 13.7m through the BBC One broadcast. This year, through the partnership between the Mayor of London's Office and Vodafone, the live experience featured the world's first 'multi-sensory' fireworks display.
