UK - Hampshire-based production company, LTN Productions, has recently invested in an Inspired Audio Optima 5 array system, supplied by Inspired Audio UK distributors, LMC Audio.

Speaking from the recent Boxford Masques 2014 event that took place against the backdrop of Welford Park, Hampshire, Dominic Blinston, director and Jon Wiles, project manager of LTN Productions discuss their recent investment in Inspired Audio Optima 5.

Blinston explains: "JP [Cavaco, sales manager at LMC Audio] got in contact with us at a time when I was looking for a larger system. We had looked at various systems but many were outside of our budget. It was great timing on JP's part that he called up on a day when I was having a moan about the cost of systems! He put us in touch with Chris Scott of Inspired Audio who we then went up to see and listen to an Optima 5 system with. Our first though

UK - Grammy award winning producer, Steve Levine has been using his new Audient ASP880 to mix the live tracks from his Assembly Point Sessions recorded at Liverpool International Music Festival last month, which featured live performances by Boy George, Mark King, Bernard Butler, Tim Burgess, Hollie Cook, Mary Epworth and Natalie McCool, as well as Levine himself demonstrating a live recording session.

"I used ASP880 on drums for the pre-production for the real-time session, and I'm now mixing the live tracks for the video with the Audient unit. One of the reasons I chose the ASP880 was because of the digital inserts," he explains, particularly impressed by the quality of the Audient ADC converters. "I'm using it as a way of adding eight analogue outboard legacy effects such as the H3000 (which bands really love) or my AMS Phaser, both when recording and mixing. I

USA - Stewart Audio has introduced a family of four low-wattage, networked amplifiers that address the need for lower channel count support at the local amplification stage. The new series brings the benefits of power-efficient digital audio networking to an underserved customer base, where consultants, systems integrators, dealers and end users require simple, affordable networked amplifier solutions scaled for smaller zones. This provides an affordable and reliable option to the larger, high-wattage amplifiers for high channel counts that permeate the market.

"To date, the market has lacked an affordable way to position networked amplifiers at endpoints," said Brian McCormick, chief marketing officer, Stewart Audio. "Our new family of compact amplifiers create a cost-efficient way to run Cat 5 or Cat 6 cable to local zones, allowing our customers to enjoy the be

UK - Creating more than 21,000 hours of television and more than 30,000 hours of radio annually, IMG is the largest independent producer of sports programming in the world. Its biggest programme of 2014, however, has been the relocation of its UK operation to new facilities on the outskirts of London, and the installation of what is reckoned to be the largest digital audio network currently being used by any broadcaster.

Requiring "everything everywhere", the network is centred on a Lawo Nova73 router using net links to serve no fewer than 15 mc²56 MkII digital mixing consoles.

All studios, production galleries and client service areas are conveniently situated within close proximity of each other on the ground floor of the new building. Taking just nine months to build, equip and commission, the facility includes four HD broadcast TV studios ranging from 1000-sq-ft

UK - A total of 12 Roland M-48 Live Personal Mixers played an integral part in the sound design for the recent Monty Python Live shows at the O2 Arena.

Facilitator, sound designer and engineer Rory Madden specified the personal mixing and monitoring solutions from Roland for his latest sound design project having used them for the UK and European tour of We Will Rock You and for The Commitments in London's West End. The M-48's were supplied by Madden's own rental and production company, Sonalyst.

As one of the first engineers to use the M-48's in quantity for live musical production, Madden chose the M-48's initially for We Will Rock You after comparing the Roland products to other similar offerings in the market. "The M-48's were a lot better in terms of sound quality than the competition. They had lots to play with and loads of cool features,"

Australia - Typically, it's sunrises that are associated with new beginnings, but for EDM fans in New South Wales, it was a "sunset" that marked the dawn of a new musical day.

The Sunset Music Festival at the Armidale Showgrounds was the first electronic dance music festival held in Australia's most populous state, and its organizers wanted it to provide an experience to build on for future events. Based on the reaction from the thousands of EDM fans who attended the one-day festival, they succeeded in doing just that, thanks in part to some unforgettable eye candy served up by the Nexus 4x4 LED panel from Chauvet Professional.

"The panels surpassed even our already high expectations; their impact was very powerful and instantly communicated to the audience that this was a very special event," said Adriano Mercurio of Showtime Promotions and Productions in

UAE - Sennheiser has announced the appointment of John McGregor as its business development manager (BDM) for the Middle East. The regional office in Dubai reported exceptionally strong growth figures for both turnover and profit in 2013 and believes this move will further strengthen its foothold in the region's education and broadcast markets.

In his new role, McGregor, a former tutor at the SAE Institute in Dubai, will also drive knowledge transfer initiatives directed at the audio specialist's Middle East partners and customers.

McGregor will serve in Sennheiser Middle East's Systems Solutions Division and will report to the company's director of sales and marketing, Mig Cardamone, who said, "On-going digitization and the convergence of IT and audio technologies are prominent trends in the region's broadcast industry, while educational institutions are increasingly lev

World - Since introduced at the 123rd AES Convention in New York City in October 2007, the API 1608 console continues to make its way into colleges and universities across the globe.

UK - When leisure operators, The Columbo Group, acquired two landmark east London sites recently, operating as live music venues, they asked Middlesex Sound & Light (MSL) to bring the technical infrastructures up to date. Their response, according to project manager Darrel Olivier, was to turn to Martin Audio's roster of potent PA systems for the solution.

The historic Cat and Mutton in Hackney dates back to 1729 - set over two floors it has been carefully restored this year.

MSL divided the venue into four zones, opting for Martin Audio's ultra-compact AQ architectural loudspeakers; they specified four AQ8 (8in + 1in) and an AQ212 (2 x 12) sub for the main ground floor trading area while upstairs they have installed two AQ6 (6.5in + 1in) full range speakers and opted for four of the same in the adjacent dance area, adding a DJ plug-in point. The sound is routed and source sel

UK - South West Four 2014 took place over August Bank Holiday weekend (August 23-24) and was hosted by Lock 'N' Load Events, who employed audio rental company Capital Sound to design an audio system that would take into account the restrictions of an extremely sound-sensitive site.

SW4 is held on Clapham Common and, with residential buildings situated on each of its sides, it was imperative that the sound did not spill over the perimeter, whilst keeping in mind that 25,000 festival-goers would expect the audio to be of an involving level.

With MLA deployed on the main stage and MLA Compact in Tent One, Capital made sure that the revellers had the best possible experience. With acts such as Above and Beyond, Eric Prydz and Pete Tong banging out the tunes it was no small feat to keep sound levels to a minimum off site, but by using the intelligent capabilities of the MLA, Capita

USA - This summer, undersea sounds captured by artist Jana Winderen temporarily transformed New York City's seven-block-long Park Avenue Tunnel in the immersive sound installation DIVE. The soundscape was heard through more than 60 Meyer Sound self-powered loudspeakers configured by Tony Myatt, a professor at the University of Surrey.

The installation was deployed along the 1,394ft-long tunnel that became a temporary pedestrian zone for New York's annual Summer Streets celebration. Greeted at the tunnel entrance by sounds of waves crashing along the seashore, visitors were pulled further into the ocean depths by sounds that included cod, toadfish, seaborne insects, boat noises, and more.

"I make multi-layered mixes of the material, which requires exceptional clarity from the loudspeakers," says Winderen. "Using Meyer Sound allows me to deliver the detailed dynam

UK - Sennheiser's new TeamConnect conferencing system has been installed at William's award winning Conference Centre, located at the home of the Williams F1 team in Grove, Oxfordshire.

In 2002, the Centre was converted from the team's base for its Le Mans project and now offers a modern and creative environment for its in-house activities, as well as hosting events and conferences for external companies looking for a state-of-the-art facility.

The Centre hosts an event every race day, where Williams' drivers and senior team personnel call into the Centre and talk to the audience of VIP listeners. In a time critical and highly pressured environment, Williams required a technology that would seamlessly connect the driver's call to the presenters and audience, every time.

USA - Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Walter Becker and Donald Fagen took Steely Dan's Jamalot Ever After tour across the U.S. and Canada this summer, with OSA International, Inc. providing Martin Audio's Multi-cellular Loudspeaker Array (MLA) sound system.

Steely Dan has a reputation among audiophiles and throughout Pro Audio for their fastidious attention to sound production, so much so that many FOH engineers and system techs use a Steely Dan track to tune a system. When it comes to live sound, their expectations for the PA are no less demanding.

Returning to mix Steely Dan is Mark Dowdle, whose extensive credits include Elton John, Gloria Estefan, Fleetwood Mac, Tina Turner and Jackson Browne, to name just a few. Last year's tour included a stop at Ravinia Festival in Chicago, where Dowdle mixed on two seven-box MLA arrays, the first year of a new OSA installation and

Taiwan - An Allen & Heath GLD-80 digital mixer has been installed in the main auditorium of the National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU). The venue mainly functions as a performance site for NTNU's department of music, and other speech or music performance courses.

A GLD system is the main FOH mixing system, fitted with a Dante card for use with playback and recording software, and to provide multi-track live recording facilities if required.

Formerly Taipei High School, the university is classed as an historic building, and as such during the audio design phase concerns were raised by the audio contractor about room acoustics.

"Not only did we have to focus on the acoustic treatment of such an old room but also on the visual results. Consequently, we consulted with all the other contractors managing building works, lighting, rigging, stage, air conditioning and interio

Europe / USA - Long-term Sennheiser users Kings of Leon have spent most of 2014 on tour throughout Europe and the USA, promoting their latest album Mechanical Bull. Accompanying them at every show has been their trusty package of Sennheiser microphones and in-ear monitors.

The band and their engineers - Front of House engineer Brent Rawlings and monitor engineer Saul Skoutarides - have been dedicated Sennheiser users for over eight years. Vocal microphone of choice for the past six has been the MD 431, a microphone they are still very happy with.

"We have the MD 431 on all of the guys as it is very stable and has a very nice frequency response for vocals," says Saul. "It also suits Caleb (Followill, lead singer) better than any other mic we tried in the past, which is part of the reason we stumbled upon it in the first place."
