UK - Lighting designer Rick Fisher has chosen ETC's Selador Desire LED fixtures to help light David Hare'sThe Judas Kiss at the Duke of York's Theatre. Set in 1895, Hare's play tells the dramatic true story of the betrayal, imprisonment and downfall of famed playwright Oscar Wilde.

"For the kind of work I'm doing - a subtle piece with the lighting concentrating on moods, emotional states and times of day - I wanted lighting which doesn't draw attention to itself," says Fisher. "The Desire fixtures give a very nice, natural looking light, which was a pleasant surprise and a real advance." The best thing, from a lighting designer's point of view, Fisher explains, is that no one noticed the difference between the Desire LED and conventional fixtures in the hybrid lighting rig.

"I had been using conventionals on the show while it was on an initial f

USA - When top production designer Baz Halpin walked past the SGM booth at the LDI Show in Las Vegas last November he was stopped in his tracks by the Danish company's new XC-5 colour strobes.

Responding to an invitation from the lighting manufacturer's US head, Randy Wade, he and Chris Nyfield, along with other members of the Silent House Productions team would probably have given little more than a cursory glance, as seeking out new strobes was probably furthest from their mind. "I was actually quite happy with the strobes we had been using - but as we walked past the SGM booth we were really taken by the strobes.

"I instantly loved the quality of the colours, the intensity, size and the low power consumption ... not to mention that the fixture could be more versatile than just a strobe," remarked the Irish born designer.

Ambersphere Solutions' MD, Glyn O'Donoghue is in no doubt about the level of interest generated by this little weapon, "As Clay Paky's exclusive distributor we know that one of their strengths is that they consult with real lighting designers to specify the feature set of their new fixtures; the Sharpy, and now the Sharpy Wash, are the result of that policy. We have been showing one prototype for a few weeks and have been blown away by the reaction from LDs and rental companies alike. It seems like the Sharpy Wash fills a void for rental companies as they have been placing orders without waiting for designers to specify th
