Green-GO digital connects Tallinn City Theatre

The relocation gave Green-GO distributor and Tallinn-based theatre smart control experts Focuspoint OÜ the opportunity to specify Green-GO solutions to the theatre, which is looking to the future with the rebuild and technical upgrade.
The existing communications system at the Salme Kultuurikeskus (Salme Cultural Centre) was, according to Focuspoint, extremely old, consisting of a one-way announcing mic at the stage manager’s desk and 100V loudspeakers positioned in four wardrobes.
“The team at City Theatre were looking to upgrade their communications system to a full digital, flexible system almost as a try out while they operate in their temporary home, and they start to specify systems for the new main theatre,” says Focuspoint’s Kalle Karindi. “I have a long-standing professional relationship with the theatre from a technical perspective, and found myself in a strong position to recommend a Green-GO system, as I am a big fan of what it can achieve.”
The Salme Kultuurikeskus offers a big stage in one space, and two separate black box performance areas on the upper floors. In addition, there are 33 wardrobe rooms, offices on three floors, and a lighting and sound booth. This required a truly wireless and robust digital communications solution that could scale and be easily installed.
In the sound and light control areas, the team has installed two Green-GO Wall Panel X mount stations, complete with integrated speaker and a headset connection. This allows these spaces to connect to the Green-GO network via 32 channels including a program audio channel and an extra channel for direct user communication on the headset.
For roaming lighting and sound operators, Focuspoint has supplied four Wireless Beltpack X units, which can connect to any of the 32 available channels, a program audio channel and an extra channel for direct user communication. This means that users can talk to multiple groups or directly - and privately - to other users. Two of the Beltpacks are intended for use by the roaming team in the main auditorium, and the other two are available for the technical team in the black box spaces upstairs.
In addition, the theatre now has two Green-GO Interface X analogue interfaces to the old system and foyer's 100V speakers along with a further 31 Wall Panel X units and three wireless antennas. One is the 2-wire version of the interface; the other two are the 4-wire configuration.
“The theatre’s team is very happy, because they haven't had any experience of such system before,” adds Karindi. “They quickly learned how to use the new digital system and appreciate its scalability. It’s proved vital as they adjust to their new temporary home, where they need to be able to easily communicate throughout the spaces and switch to different stages.”
The City Theatre hopes to move back into its newly remodelled space on Lai Street in 2024.
